Cyclone Football: In depth on the defensive line

Here's the interview I recently conducted with defensive line coach Curtis Bray. On a side note, Rony Nelson is not talked about in this interview because at the time of me doing it, he wasn't on campus yet. He is now and will be around for spring ball.

Good read. It still seems we'll be lacking on the DLine unless some guys really step up their play. Hopefully with another year under the belt some of them can come in and make huge gains.

I was very encouraged with what I saw out of Ruempolhamer last season. My hopes are that he has a huge spring.

Heck of a question at the end about Lyle, Chris.

I felt that he never fully got to his potential in a Cyclone uniform between coaching changes and questionable schemes under the old regime.

Not to mention he seemed to be held more than any defensive end I can ever remember in a Cyclone uniform.

While on live TV, Ford used a vulgar term to describe a private part of the female anatomy, adding that he was “happily married” and “got more than enough to eat at home.”

Even more than Berryman? If so, that is a shame.

    Nice article Chris.

What's your impression of the coach by the way? Great teacher? Quiet confidence?

I think that quiet confidence is a good way to describe Coach Bray. He's not an in your face kind of a guy but demands respect.

    My thoughts too, Chris.

Ruempolhamer is one of the few we have that looks physically to have the Big 12 size physically that you're looking for. He's listed at 6'3" and 287 lbs in the recently released roster. Nobody on the team comes close to having that height and weight. Jerrod Black and Walter Woods have that kind of weight, but are only about 6' flat. Cleyon Laing will probably be about the same size as Rump this coming spring, but has a lot more work to do to see the field.

I'm as excited about Ruempolhamer as I am about anyone else on the DL right now.

I would have liked to have heard his thoughts on the incoming DL class...

He can talk about Nelson, but any others are off limits until they sign their LOI's in February.
