    Assessment against Nebraska

    Positives:

    1. A WIN!!! A road one at that! I think this was one of those games that going into it the negatives were far out numbering the positives in terms of outcome. So to get the win and escape is awesome.

    2. Hamilton continues to impress and his confidence it building. Heck he even took a shot outside his norm granted it was not a very desirable but it went in! 6 pts, 7 rebs, 3 blks with zero turnovers.

    3. Came out of the game strong building a nice lead. Started the 2nd half well and managed to offset the lack luster final minutes of the 1st half. Unfortunately we will talk about this in the bottom of this post.

    4. Out rebounded a team...something that has not been done lately. Heck in Big 12 play we are winning the rebound margin game! We have improved this aspect the most over the last two weeks. Its very encouraging!!!

    5. Staying out of foul trouble. This is one area that this team has done very well and probably is one of the greatest strengths. Hopefully its not a sign of lack of aggressiveness and it just shows that they dont pick up the silly fouls.

    Negatives

    1. Let them back in the game the final minutes of the 1st Half. ISU had a chance to really take charge and dominate this game. It would have been great but a win is a win.

    2. Shot selection at times was questionable. This wasn't a huge issue but a few shots were taken that you need to make sure are good looks. This gets magnified when games are close.

    3. Terrible entry passes, numerous times the post was there but the entry pass was coming from a terrible angle. Sometimes its the post player not sealing but it seems that our post guys are now playing much more physical. If we get the wing to take one dribble or pass to the wing and enter the ball we wont have those 4-6 turnovers and possessions with no shot.

    4. Basketball IQ was not great or maybe its just the mental area of the game. Lucca needed to grab that rebound off the free throw and take the foul. Guys need to know the situation at the end of the game, up three with fouls to give.

    5. Losing Booz might be a bigger loss than the 7-10 minutes he was getting. Is it possible that the 7th or 8th man might be one of the most valuable? I really like Scotty's game but I dont think he brings the same energy Booz did. Maybe when Colvin returns this wont hurt as much as it does now.

Lets keep this rolling, it has felt great and we need this win Wednesday night. I predict this might be the game that Brackins really gets the scoring back on track and busts out!!!!

    In addition:

Nebraska self destructed in the last ten seconds. That was nice to see another team fall apart.

    Re: Assessment against Nebraska

Good analysis without getting too negative. Shot selection and what I thought were lazy passes are areas of concern.

    Re: Assessment against Nebraska

I almost posted a similar analysis last night but to keep it short:

Best Positive: REBOUNDING ... FINALLY !!!
Worst Negative: Free throw shooting. God, please have someone teach LaRon to shoot free throws. His shot is just plain ugly. Gilstrap was bricking them too. And both of these guys are going to get to the line a lot because of their style of play. Its good to see Mac's emphasis on rebounding start to pay off. Next up, free throw shooting.

I don't really see what you mean about Lucca getting the rebound at the end. He got tackled by the NU player as he went after the ball. What did you expect him to do?

Alteast he went after it instead of watching the action.

Wow, really? Love me some Ham.

I thought a big key to the game was Scott's ballhandling at the end of the game--puts a big of pressure on the defense and gave us another guy (w/ DG) to handle it and set up--very nice.

I think the OP was a pretty well-balanced post overall, but the Lucca part was a little off.

He had the ball and did a good job of keeping his hands on it. If he loses that ball who knows what happens. It was a cluster.

Actually, that's the second game in a row where we've rebounded well.

Really? He should be playing a lot more minutes than he is. He's the best center we have and name me a center in ISU's history that was playing better in their sophmore season than he is right now. Homan, Shirley, Rancik, Meyer, Hubalek all didn't pick it up until later in their careers. He's going to be an important part of our team next year and I think that's a good thing.

I'm really looking forward to seeing his continued development. He could/should really be something next year.
