    Printer suggestions

My old HP deskjet 932 just crapped out this week after buying new cartridges of course. [Optional]Also, my wife thinks we need a scanner(we don't) but I thought I would ask.

Anyway, any suggestions for decent home printers would be appreciated.

I've bought the cheapies, and I've bought expensive ones, and I concur that they all suck.

knowing what you know now, after buying the expensive ones and the inexpensive ones, if you had to buy one tomorrow, which would you buy? (not a model number, just in general)?

    Re: Printer suggestions

How much ink do you go through in a year? The amount you use it really will determine what you need.

I really like the wireless printers they have now and think they are worth the extra money, usually only about $20 more. I personally prefer HP products.

I've had good luck with my HP. The ink cartridges lasted quite a while. I have a 940c that came out just after your 932c. Still works good.

I've been going cheap. My previous one was a printer/fax/scanner/etc, and when it doesn't want to speak with your computer, all the features just taunt you. My new one cost less than new ink cartridges.

    Re: Printer suggestions

I went laser this time and passed on the color. I found that the only thing I was ever printing in color was pictures and it's just cheaper to buy those than constantly replace all 4 cartriges. So about 6 months ago I bought this for about $70.

    Brother HL-2170W

I have it running on my network so that I don't even have it connected to any PC. I like it a lot except one small thing. Right when it starts up the lights go dim. Apparently this is a common problem with this model. It doesn't hurt anything and it's just for a second.

    Re: Printer suggestions

I have an HP Laserjet P1005 and I love it. It only cost about $75 a couple of years ago. It only does black and white but as the earlier posted mentioned, pictures are becoming cheaper to get sent out rather than print yourself. The huge upside to laser is that the cartridges do not dry out if you don't use them for a while. When you have to replace the cartridge it is expensive (~$50), but even as a student that prints out a lot of class notes, they last about a year.

    Re: Printer suggestions

I bought a Kodak all in one. They advertised that they use much less toner. Well, that was complete BS. 99% of what I print is b & w. Yet somehow, the color cartridge runs empty on occasion and it won't even allow you to print with the b & w cartridge if the color is empty.

    Total rip off.

Have a brother laser at work and really like it, but would agree HP is the way to go.

I have to agree on the black and white laser. We do alot of printing at the office and it has said us alot of time and money since we bought it. Have a hp 2015dn that we got for around $150.

Your suggestion seemed good. I went to an Office Depot in Omaha (they have 3 or 4 in town). They conveniently had none in stock. They then checked with all stores in town and said they had none in stock. Then I was told there might be one in Lincoln, but they were unwilling to have that shipped to the Omaha store or to otherwise order one for the Omaha store. "All stores are out of these...the warehouse is out..and we won't be restocking". They then refused to make a deal on a similar product.

BAIT AND SWITCH. I will never step in an Office Depot again.
