    Did Tubberville agree too quickly...

to be Texas Tech head coach?

Would he have had a shot at the Tennessee gig?

I'm not real familiar with what's considered the traditional SEC hierarchy, but is it that much better of a job than Tech?

Perception wise, I think Tennesse would be a step up from Texas Tech. That's just my opinion, however.

You bring up a good point, however.

Well that depends on who you ask. If you ask an SEC fan, they will probably tell you that Tennessee is a better gig than any job in the Big 12.

That said, in my mind Tennessee is a better job than TT. TT is at best the third most important college football program in Texas, and from what I've heard it is basically in the middle of nowhere. And while they have had a very successful run under Leach, they don't have the best history.

Tennessee on the other hand has a huge stadium and great fan support, and I would say it is a program with more visibility nationally. They are the premier program in the state, and didn't they win a national title in the early 90s?

His new recruiting name can be Tumbleweed Tuberville.

Ok, that's what I was looking for. I guess to me I would say the primo jobs in the SEC would be Florida and Bama obviously, but after that I wouldn't say any one school was more prestigous or likely to be successful than any other, exempting maybe LSU. That to me doesn't seem any different than the Big 12 where it's Texas, OU and everybody else, except that many would argue you'd have an easier overall schedule in the Big 12.

Re: Did Tubberville agree too quickly...

No doubt Tennessee is a better job. I don't know if he had a shot but I think he is probably thinking about that. Tennessee is a big time gig. TT is at very best the third best football school in the state and I would actually say iit is 4th. Also, I don't think Leach was getting great classes in, but he has such a monster of an offense without a ton of talent that they were successful.

Funny how this is being brought up now. Wasn't Leach on the short list to take over at Tennessee last year, but turned them down because of the good thing going at Tech? If Tennessee is still interested, think Leach would jump at it this time around?

It is funny how things seem to go full circle. I had forgotten all about Leach being on the short list for the Vols.

Yes -- Tennessee is a better job than Texas Tech. In fact it is a better job than Auburn. If Tubberville doesn't take the Tech job he would have been at the top of the list for the Vols head job. However, Tubberville had no way of knowing it would come open.

Tennessee is the better job but there's less stress in the Big 12. Probably easier to win, too. With the strangle hold Florida and Bama have on that conference, it's a fairly similar job right now IMO.

I don't know, I think the Tennessee gig may be an up and coming spot right now. Keep in mind that Tennessee is in the SEC East.

    East:
    Florida
    Georgia
    Tennessee
    Kentucky
    South Carolina
    Vanderbilt

The bottom three aren't much to worry about. Georgia didn't have that great of a year this year, and with all this crap going on with Meyer at Florida, I don't think their continued dominance is at all a sure thing. I would say now is one of the best times in many many years to try and make a move in the SEC East.

Bama may not be going anywhere, but you could go lose to Bama in the SEC title game every year and still head off to a BCS Bowl game. With OU and UT rolling along in the Big 12 South, just making the Big 12 title game at Tech will be an uphill climb.
