    Loved Dendy last night

Everything from his hustle to his attitude. I think Dendy will be a beast for us next year. He just really needs to start hitting his free throws. Him and Gilstrap missed some free throws when we really needed them last night.

    Re: Loved Dendy last night

If he plays like this all the time, we really do look at last night as the night Dendy became a man, basketball-wise.

    Dendy-mania is running wild again!!!

    Re: Loved Dendy last night

As I mentioned in the other thread, for the second half last night it finally looked to me like everything slowed down for Dendy. And that's a great sign. Now if he can keep his head on straight and play with a good attitude, he'll be a huge asset for the team the rest of the season.

Dendy gave Pittman all kinds of problems.

Has a motor like no other, just needs to be able to know when to control it and when to let it out. Gave us great minutes last night and got into double figures. Needs to work on those free throws.

Love this guy, easily one of my favorite Cyclones.

You all have to relize this is probably the first time Dendy has ever been coached. Juco coaches don't coach that much. They just get really good players and run there system.
No way a coach would be worried about coaching a 6'10 inch high school kid. He probably dominated the game everywhere he has been. I am sure an off season is going to do him a lot of good. Wish he had 2 more years.

Not second guessing the rotation, but it makes you wonder if some of these kids would develop faster and become more consistent if the team wasn't as deep in the early season.

Maybe. I honestly think that things had to go rough for this group to realize how hard they need to play, and how together they need to play.

That's a fair point. But in Dendy's case he didn't develop faster because he got injured after the 1st exhibition game.

He misses them when we don't need them either. He can't hit a FT to save his life. The rest of his game is very nice...except when he drives to the lane out of control.

He needs to shorten up his free throw mechanics. Start with the ball close to shooting position, and there's less that will go wrong.

    Re: Loved Dendy last night

Dendy did some growing up last night. That's for sure. He still needs to get his head right (McD constantly brought him over to the bench to talk to him during dead ball situations), but he's getting there.

I noticed Brackins and DG bringing him into the huddle and really doing their best to corrale him as well. Dendy just needs to continue to provide that spark off the bench, play within himself (crash the boards, play defense and keep all shots within 10 feet), and for the love of God, keep his head in the game and do what's best for the team.

Last night was an example of him putting it all together, but there's still lot's of room for improvement, which is certainly encouraging.

Honestly, it's the opposite. When he follows through, his FTs go in. When he doesn't, he short-arms it, and they go awry.

I'm referring more to the starting position than the follow through. I hate seeing players start the free throw motion down around their knees. If you start by holding the ball up at chest level, there is far less complexity to the motion, and therefore less to go wrong.

Deviating from the topic a little bit, did you notice how Pittman held the ball like a grapefruit when he was at the line? HUGE hands.
