    ISU gains walk on

I heard from a very reliable source that Nick Kron from WDM Valley is walking on at ISU. He plays the Lawrence Taylor Position which is a OLB/DE hybrid. He could also play Tight End. He's about 6'4 230. He had a pretty good senior season. He held Chad Owens, who ran for 1,600 yards last season, to negative yards. He was a consensus all-stater by the DMR.

I'm sure some on here will post, "Well if he was any good he wouldn't be walking on at Iowa State."

I say Mr. Kron sounds like a good pick up and I want to thank him for choosing Iowa State.

Sounds like an athletic kid that could grow into a beast at DT.
I say that because he sounds like a player but you're right and speed
is most likely the reason he did not get an offer. I don't mean this as a knock
in anyway, kids like this should be the backbone of our program.

    Sorry, had to.

ISU needs to find players like this to help compete. Some turn out and some don't. There are players all over the state that don't get looked at simply because they are from Iowa. Yes, a lot of them need work physicallly but it doesn't take away from the fact that they are still just good football players (Jesse Smith). Welcome aboard Nick!

Big kid. Could turn into a great D-end if he doesn't have a shot at linebacker. That is a great walk on, IMO.

I like him...looks to be a pretty scrappy player who has a good motor.

    Re: ISU gains walk on

Nice motor, smart player but he HAS to get quicker off the ball. That will come and if it does, along with some more speed and strength this kid could be an animal. He sure has the frame to be an animal.

    Re: ISU gains walk on

Does seem to have a good motor, that is his feet keep moving and he doesn't get pushed around so much. Quickness in general is my concern. Even when breaking free from the tackle, he will need to work on containing instead of chasing as it doesn't look like he has the speed to catch them. Could make for an excellent special teams player though!

But yest lets not forgot how both Jesse Smith and Jordan Carstens started on the ISU team, both walkons invited by DMac.

It looks like that he has the potential to be a contributor. More than quickness, the biggest issue that I see in the videos is the tendency to come up out of his stance too early. It probably comes from his time at LB, but he needs to keep his pad levels lower at DE. He gets away with it now because of the level of the competition. This won't be the case at the next level. I am impressed with how he uses his hands.

It's good to see kids like this walking on. We'll find a few diamonds that way and won't hurt scholarship totals.

Awsome News, looking forward to watching Nick in a couple of years. I could really see him developing into a D-Line Beast. He has the Frame and is a good Athlete.

I don't think he has the quickness to be a DE in the Big 12, but looks like he has the frame to grow into a solid DT.

Think about what Coach McKnight can do with these kids. Lets add some weight and speed with this kid and see what we get. Good Luck!
