    Jose Canseco

Anyone hear on Sports Center tonight when Jose referred this comment to Mark McGuire "Their's no crying in Baseball". It cracked me up hearing him look into the camera and say that. Jose took more scutiny over steroids than anyone and he can no longer be the escape goat that everyone wants to point towards. By all accounts he has stated more truth about the era than anyone.

It's funny that Mac continues to deny Canseco's allegations. If you're going to tell the truth, tell full truths - not half. That still gets you in hot water.

C'mon now, don't pylon. McGuire wasn't being a pre-madonna. It's just been a world wind couple of days for him.

    Re: Jose Canseco

As much as I think Canseco is a sleaze-bag (which I really don't think anyone denies at this point), he has really been the most truthful about the whole steroid issue. It's getting to the point where I can believe almost 1/3 of the things that come out of his mouth, and that's pretty sad.

Conseco certainly is a ******bag, but I think he's more honest than McGwire. McGwire's interview was pathetic, and offered up nearly every excuse imaginable. He's lost the little bit of credibility that he did have in my book.

hahahaha - I REALLY like what you did here with the word play! To the original poster if not clear: it is SCAPE goat, not ESCAPE goat.

    Re: Jose Canseco

This Canseco = scumbag and McGwire = great guy analysis kind of bothers me. Why is it...because Canseco is trying to profit from telling the truth? You do realize that McGwire was trying to profit from not telling the truth...don't you?

I don't know either guy but I am always a little skeptical of the "general consensus" about the kind of person these people are.

Just a couple of months ago most people thought Tiger Woods was a good guy too.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Very good post. From what we can see, neither one comes off very well.

At the same time, if Canseco were to accuse me of using steroids, I'd start wondering if I did. His track record has been very solid so far.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.

I have zero respect for McGwire after all of this. And I am a Cardinals fan.

    I agree 100% with this.

there is only one person responsible for what this whole debacle that is the steroid era in baseball has become. Bud Selig. He allowed things to get out of hand under his watch and he turned a blind eye because baseball needed to get back on top, which it did in '98 through the steroid fueled homerun race between Sosa and Mac. now that the turn around and major increases in revunue the MLB has seen since the "98 season has been tarnished by "the cream", "the clear", barroids enormous head, and palmero pointing into camera saying "I did not...." someone had to take the fall for it, and Selig wasn't about to allow himself to be "that guy". Thus, the PR campaign by MLB and everyone accused to ruin any and all credibility jose canseco possessed before this entire process of congressional hearings and finger pointing began. The excuses of "it was the culture of the time" and "we were only using it to stay healthy" or "we are under so much pressure to perform on a daily basis" anything to take the focus off of selig and the individuals who allowed this to go on, and make baseball and the players seem as if it was the victim of some unfortunate circumstance. **** you bud selig, your as dishonest and as crooked of a guy as there is in sports and I'll take Jose Canseco's word over yours or over any of the other dishonest losers out there (mac, pettite, clemons, barroid, the shirtles park taner, etc) who are trying to cover their own, and your ***.

This is the same thing that is happening now with Mcgwire, a PR campaign by the MLB before he returns to the national spotlight with the cardinals. Now I don't claim to have a source or any inside information, but would anyone argue against the fact that there was probably some behind closed doors meeting between Mac and baseball execs/members of the cardinals organization where it was decided that he had to do this before he came back?? but this is the first Larussa has heard of it...... Right does anyone really think that this has just been eating at his conscience for years now, and conveniently the winter before he returns to coach baseball he saw the light and felt he needed to come clean?? I hope not, and if you/they do then you're f-ing kidding yourself. He's lied about this for years and he is still lying about it now, just listen to him talk about it. he minimizes any involvement with the drugs, he comes up with countless justifications that are somehow supposed to make it Ok, and he puts on this sob story about his family and how it's eaten him up inside to make people think that he is somehow the victim in the situation. I don't buy it and I don't see how anyone else could. He's a fraud and he's showing how little he respects the game of baseball or the fans by continuing to spew ******** lies and give justification for his actions, all while being supported by Bud Selig and MLB for doing so. but as fans we're just supposed to forgive and forget right?? and keep forking out $75 + for a single seat to watch a game. it makes me sick to see the guys I looked at as hero's growing up turn out to be crooks, liars, and cheats who didn't care about he game or anyone other then themselves.
Thanks baseball, I will be sure to tune into every game this year

    end rant

    Re: Jose Canseco

MAC lost me when he said taking 'roids didn't help him hit more home runs.

He also lost me after he said he only started taking 'roids to help him with injuries. He started taking them in '94 - doesn't appear that they helped with the injuries that much, given his health record post-1994.

Canseco is easily the more believable of the two.

    Re: Jose Canseco

I expected the McGuire interview to be an apology and come clean moment for him that would earn him back a little respect. After watching it he reminded me of a school kid that gets caught cheating, makes up a bad excuse, then tells the teacher he could have passed the test even if he hadn't cheated. McGuire came out looking very phoney and I'm sure he'll hear it as he travels with the Redbirds this summer.

Say what you want about Conseco but over time everything he has stated has proven to be true. If it comes down to Conseco's word vs. McGuire or LaRussa I would take Conseco's word for it every time.

LMFAO. All classic "want-of-bees" there. Don't take all of these for-granite either.
