    Haiti Earthquake

Looks like it was a 7.0 on the Richter scale. I saw somewhere on the internet that casualties may be as many as 1 million people. Horrible.

A million? I hadn't heard that, but I can only imagine what devastation was caused. I'm sure their buildings (even the sound ones) are not built with earthquakes in mind.

This has got to be huge, but 1 million seems really unlikely. If it is anywhere near that it has to be one of the largest disasters in history.

Apparently the capital, Port Au Prince, has 2 million people, and it's basically been reduced to ash, so those numbers may be accurate.

Thanks for the link. Those numbers are unbelievable. This is truly a disaster.

    Re: Haiti Earthquake

Yeah, I read some more updates after your post, and there are major, major buildings down- many which were actually likely to have been well built. With the squalor that exists in Haiti, the shoddy housing that is prevalent wouldn't stand much of a chance. Horrible, horrible situation.

According to wiki, this would definitely be one of the worst.

    Re: Haiti Earthquake

Hold on, hold on. The confirmed death toll is currently at 500, and the tsunami warning is no longer in effect (which is very good, obviously). The toll will undoubtedly rise, but the only thing to do is wait for the U.S. military to get in there and get some real intelligence.

    And, of course, pray.

Interesting- I did not know that President Clinton is the UN special envoy to Haiti. Putting politics aside, it's good that there is a dynamic individual with responsibilities in this area of the world.

    Re: Haiti Earthquake

We help support a missionary group in Haiti (HAFF). They are in a more remote area near the mountains and had almost no damage. They definitely felt the earthquake.
Many of the kids go to school and also they have relatives living in Port so there is concern and will be until people know what happened to their families.. Extreme poverty in Haiti and this will exacerbate their problems. Often no food. Praying is appreciated. Money is needed. Thanks.

This sort of thing is the sort of cause he does excel at. He'll be a good person for what they'll need in their recovery.

Definitely be praying for these folks. This sounds absolutely terrible.
