Still Think Tim Floyd was a Sacrificial Lamb?

Did NCAA\'s Handling of USC Investigation \'Hasten\' Carroll\'s Exit to Seattle? - The Trenches - The Trenches - Sporting News

Not letting USC self impose is a bad sign for them. This could be very, very bad for them. I don't know that there will be the death penalty, although there should be since that comes when there appears to be a lack of institutional control. I would say when your Bball and Fball teams are taking money there must not be a whole lot of control. I am about 95% sure there will be vacated wins and perhaps championships. Sneaky Petey got out just in times it looks like to me.

Which does explain him jumping out to the NFL now

So they sacrificed him and now the football team is going to get hammered as well? That was a pretty stupid plan on USC's part.

There is NO way the NCAA would whip out the death penalty again to a school in a BCS conference, and it's pretty unlikely that they would do it to any school in 1A either.

It's simply not going to happen.

I didn't say it would, I said it should.

If they don't do it here they set a huge precedent.

Anyone notice the mock draft on the left side? Top 5 players all from the Big 12.

That is the nuclear bomb. You don't drop it for relatively minor stuff like this.

It's going to take a lot more than what is alleged at the moment to get a death penalty for any school, let alone one like USC.

I agree that the NCAA realizes how the death penalty impacted SMU for decades, but without that silver bullet, what else can it do for punishment to repeat offenders?

How about the ISU Crippling Near-Death Penalty, where you take away like 25 scholarships.

It's minor that your best basketball player and football player of the decade were recieveing money to play there. Who knows who else was recieveing money. That is the definition of "lack of institutional control" and the punishment for that is supposed to be the death penalty. I think the death penalty is too harsh, however the NCAA needs to come down hard on this and make a statement, otherwise it sends a bad message.

I enjoyed the crossed out zing in the last paragraph.

Re: Still Think Tim Floyd was a Sacrificial Lamb?

I thought Floyd left USC on his own.

Giving money to players or representatives of players is a low reward high risk gamble and is stupid. Tim Floyd is not stupid. I am guessing if any basketball players or their representatives got money from USC it was done without TF's knowledge and that is why he left knowing that illegal activity had been taking place behind his back and he was ultimately responsible in the eyes of the public. He just said screw it, I have plenty of money, I don't need this B.S.

There was a freaking murder coverup at Baylor and look what happened there. I consider that much more serious than players getting money. I would imagine that happens at pretty much every college in D1. Maybe not to the same extent, but it's probably not far removed.

Look at Ohio State not too long ago. Or Oklahoma a few years back. It's rampant, and it goes unchecked, and it will result in only relatively minor penalties to a program like USC.

At the end of the day, programs like that actually run the NCAA, it's not the other way around.

I highly doubt he knew nothing. The allegation is he gave money, himself, to Mayos handlers. If that is not true why wouldn't he even try to deny it? He then just steps out without any comment. That's fishy. I have no proof but I would have to believe he knew about it and if I had to lay money down I would say he was giving the money himself as reported.
