    NCAA basketball coaching changes continue

I didn't realize that there were so many coaching positions still available:

Here's the article on the coaching switches going on: link to ESPN

Re: NCAA basketball coaching changes continue

"The next time a coach starts with the lecture series about commitment and "being family," I'm going to remind them of this week. I'm going to ask them why the "student-athletes" (as the NCAA insists we call them during the postseason) at Kentucky, Iowa, Princeton and possibly SIU, UNLV, Winthrop, Air Force and Northwestern should believe a word a coach says anymore. "

What about the Michigan job? Won't any sane coach choose Michigan over Iowa?

you would think so... it will be interesting to see how many mid major coaches make jumps up (mike anderson to mizzou) and how many coaches go down (SA..hahaha)

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

One would would think Michigan is the better job, but to be honest their facilities are terrible. A school of that size, money, and prestige should have nothing but the best.......I think Football gets all the funding.

and just what the heck do you think the university of iowa does with its funding?

iowa cannot be a very high choice as far as coaching vacancies go.

The appeal is there as it is a very passionate fan base. Just as is the Cyclone fan base.

The job is attractive because Carver is a better facility than Crisler Arena. Both schools do not have practice facilities but at Iowa they have hired an a firm to begin putting together designs. The one factor that Iowa has no control over is that the recruiting areas close to Ann Arbor are far better than what Iowa has to offer. Michigan produces a lot of very good talent (e.g. Buckley 08 commit).

I'll agree with that. Michigan has more tradition however.

the main hawk fan base is passionate, but there are so many "hawk" fans who are just fairweather and have absolutely no ties to the university...It would be much easier for Michigan to fill it's stadium before iowa. iowa's athletic programs are on the downfall, I am sorry, but it's true. I mean when you have a fanbase that caused its own university to buyout websites with "fire*insert name here*.com" you have HUGE PROBLEMS. I can say with about 99.9% confidence I will never see the day where Cyclone fans create sites like "firejamiepollard.com", etc. I am realistic about my teams and ISU's athletics are not stellar OVERALL right now (except for the wrestling program which is AMAZING at the moment), but the future is a ton brighter than it is for iowa. whoever comes into coach iowa men's bball is gonna have a HUGE job on his hands, maybe just as tough as McDermott's when he came into ISU. As far as football, it's too close to call quite yet this year, but I think we are seeing ferentz coming back down to earth these past 2 years and ISU is gonna be on the rise fast with Chizik because he does not tolerate losing. It's an exciting time to be a Cyclone.

I agree. Michigan's national reputation as a basketball school still stands, but times have been a little lean lately for them. They still have enough draw to bring in a top-notch coach.

Re: NCAA basketball coaching changes continue

Comments like Gorney's don't help their chances of luring a top tier coach however. He said S.A. wanted to get out of the negative environment.

In all honesty, I agree with most Hawk fans that wanted him gone... but getting essentially run out of town by a fan base 1 year after winning 25 games, the big 10 tournament, and all your home games sounds like the expectations from a program like UNC, or UConn. I don't see an established D-1 head coach taking on that kind of pressure from a fan base without the facilities, recruiting base, or prestige.

    I could be wrong.
