    Future Schedules (frustrated)

So... how come our athletic department doesn't get a bit creative with our future schedules?!?! I'm getting sick of playing the same turd teams. For example, if it's gotta be a MAC team, why not get Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo? Or if we are going to play a Mountain West team, why not get Colorado State, Wyoming, TCU? What about some WAC teams? I'd love ISU to get a shot at Boise State for revenge in Ames.

The bottom line, is I am getting tired of ISU playing the same teams, mix it up a bit. According to the ISU Official website, we play the following teams in the upcoming schedules:

(we have played a lot of these teams in recent years...)

11x Iowa (I know this is a given)
6x Northern Iowa (I know we shouldn't lose to them, but damn.)
2x Northern Illinois (eh..I just remember the loss at their house with Rutland)
1x North Dakota State (here comes lakesbison!)
2x Utah (I like this match up)
2x UConn (bad memories of Seneca)
1x UNLV (coach throwing a fit, and loss in the ***** hole that is Sam Boyd)
2x Tulsa (maybe we can actually beat an Oklahoma team?)
1x Western Kentucky (LOL, brand new to D1AA!)
    1x Western Illinois (don't care)
2x Air Force (like this match up also..)
2x Toledo (tired of playing them)
3x San Jose State (good for recruiting?)
3x Kent State (tired of playing them)
2x Navy (love playing the service academies)

I know how it would be nice to play some BigTen teams, and yea the schedule would be harder, but look at Colorado. They play at CSU, at Cal, Hawaii, Georgia. I think we could handle a Minnesota or an Indiana at home...

If it were up to me, we'd schedule one 1AA, Iowa, and two MAC-level teams that are sure things. Just make sure you enter Big 12 play at the very least 3-1 every single year.

Yeah, why can't the incompetent boobs at the athletic department schedule someone different, like Utah!

But they'd never do something like that, if they did, what would people complain about on the message boards?

dude our schedule the next 2 years are the hardest schedules we've had in a long time...

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Future Schedules (frustrated)

Western Kentucky will be a different one in a few years.

I wonder if it's just easier for all involved once they've established a relationship. I'm guessing that goes for us as well as them.

Also, I'm thinking that other schools like Akron or whoever we could get, are in the same sort of boat. They have their games that are automatically factored in, like tOSU, and work around that. I'm guessing that they have those relationships in place, and it's just easier for them that way.

I get tired of Kent State, too, but I wonder if this is how it happens.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

I think Paul Rhoads and the team can handle the challenge. We should have plenty of talent by then to win most of the games against non-BCS conference schools.

if I'm not mistaken, we signed a home-away-home series with Kent State. Its more advantageous to us as we get 2 home games, and they get a home game out of it.

    Re: Future Schedules (frustrated)

I wouldn't mind seeing a home and home with Colorado State. That being said, I love the games against Navy, Air Force and Utah. UCONN has come a long way since 2002 and SJS is different.

I guess I don't mind our schedule going forward, with the exception of Kent State 3 times.

So does this mean we have to continue to play Northern Iowa, Kent State, Toledo, UNLV? I don't mind ISU playing a MAC/WAC/MTW team, but ******, mix it up a bit.

    Iowa State is:

    (VS BCS)
    1-4 vs ACC
    1-2 vs BigEast
24-80 vs BigTen (only 5 victories vs teams not Iowa)
    2-8 vs Pac10
    1-6 vs SEC
178-400 Big12 (just threw that in there)

    (VS non BCS)
    25-4 vs MVC (D1AA)
    22-4 vs MAC
    27-12 vs MWC
    6-2 vs WAC
    6-4 vs ConfUSA
    2-0 vs SunBelt

That said, you are right Chris that ISU should pad it's schedule a bit, and the stats prove that ISU has had a lot more success vs the lesser conferences.

    Re: Future Schedules (frustrated)

got few complaints on the non-conf teams. but i'd recommend a few decent name teams from top conferences to swap them for.....Benefits are nice home-and-home w/o the laughter of MAC teams + a little recruiting mixed in.

    Big 10: Indiana, Minnesota, Illinois
    SEC: Miss St., Vandy
ACC: Maryland, FSU (why not - better name, same difficulty as UConn)
    Pac-10: Wazzu, ASU
    Big East: Syracuse

Really don't want any part of WAC or MWC - you either get a good/great (Utah, TCU) or sneaky good (Nevada) or team-that-doesn't-get-you-anything (Utah St, UNLV).

As long as i'm here....move Iowa to T-Giving (i know, never gonna happen) and punch the Big 12 in the rocks for sticking us w/back-to-back UT/OU every other cycle. I realize somebody's gotta get the crappy draw in the North....but please. Make one @ home and one on the road during the cycle...and not in back to back weeks.

All that said, the department has upgraded the schedule which is nice....but i also agree w/Chris that we should shoot for a schedule that puts us in a position to go 3-1 (or 2-2 at worst) going into Big 12 play.

Chill out. I was just stating that some variety would be nice. That said, ISU is 4-0 all time vs Utah.

I could handle this... good post.

    ISU is:

    0-0-0 vs Indiana
3-22-1 vs Minnesota (most of the games were in the early 1900s)
    1-3-2 vs Illinois
    0-0-0 vs Mississippi State
    1-1-0 vs Vanderbilt
    0-0-0 vs Maryland
    1-1-0 vs Florida State
    0-0-0 vs Washington State
    0-0-0 vs Arizona State
    0-1-1 vs Syracuse
