just how bad the teams we've beaten are

Here's how the 10 teams we've beaten this year are ranked in the Sagarin ratings.

    101. Houston
    126. Saint Louis
    127. Bradley
    193. Iowa
    244. Idaho State
    257. Drake
    289. Tennessee State
    331. Chicago State
    340. Mississippi Valley State
    344. North Dakota

There are only 347 ranked teams, so you can see we really do schedule the worst teams in America.
Our strength of schedule is 290th. And unbelievably that does include the Duke game.
North Dakota State is ranked 274th, so we if we can beat them it really will be one of the better wins of the Greg Mcdermott era.

It's always good to go with the old adage: It's better to be quiet and have people think you are stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Unfortunately ISU's schedule has suffered from a couple of teams being really down. Iowa and Bradley typically are pretty good teams and St Louis has been much stronger in the past than they are right now. With the contacts being done so far ahead of time, what do you do? Our SOS will improve during the first part of the Big 12.

NDSU was really good last year. Chicago St and Drake have been good recently.

Don't talk about how good the teams we have lost to are. That would be positive.

for the record....I went to quite a few games prior to Johnny Orr and I can tell you back then if they had 3500 fans in the bldg it was a good crowd!!!!!

Re: just how bad the teams we've beaten are

That list shows why the UNI and NW losses were so big. If we could have just gotten one of those we'd have a decent out of conference victory on our resume. You need those good wins to make the tournament. As it is we don't have much margin for error in the Big 12, and it is tough this season.

Will be interesting to see how all of the Big 12 games today play out.

Re: just how bad the teams we've beaten are

While I think this post is about 50-75% useless, it still remains that GMac hasn't beaten many good teams. I made a post about it before.

Most of the non-con teams we've played in his era were not that great which is why we usually start out with 9 or 10 wins, then get smoked in the Big 12 (He's 14-37 in the big 12 and 4 of those wins have been over Nebraska, 3 over Colorado....I think he beat Oklahoma State once, Baylor once, and maybe Oklahoma once...in three seasons. That's not saying a lot).

I strongly believe we're better this year than any of the three years, at least...we have the most potential I should say.

But, it's true, take a look at who we've played under GMac and then realize THAT is the reason he is 54-54 here because we've gotten smoked in the Big 12 every year (his first year wasn't AS bad ...and we beat Purdue).

Yep. We've lost to every team ranked higher than us and we've beaten every team ranked lower.

And that won't get us into the tourney.

Re: just how bad the teams we've beaten are

Was anyone else suprised we are ranked 82nd? That actually was better than I thought. I expected us to be somewhere in the 100-130 range. Just shows how little things can make a huge difference. If we just made 1-2 more plays at the end of the UNI game we are probably sitting around 60 which starts to get you in the bubble conversation. Oh well.
