    Recruit Poaching

With the turnover in KU, Tech and now USF; guess I am a little surprised we have not heard any rumors of ISU getting a look from some of their verbals, since Texas and Florida are recruiting targets.

I suppose Gill has been working hard to retain his kids and he seems like a personable guy. USF change is too new.

Anyway, anyone have a shortlist of kids that had offers from ISU as well as KU, Tech or USF?

I'd imagine that we aren't in on too many kids committed to USF. I'm not sure if we were for TTU or not. KU I'm pretty certain we were battling for (and lost out on) some recruits.

    Re: Recruit Poaching

JUCO - Signed LOI no offer from us but on his list
    Curtis Weatherspoon - Yahoo! Sports

On his list (RB) with offer. He would be worth talking to if coaches are worried about losing Shontrell.
    Marcus Shaw - Yahoo! Sports

2 out of 16 recruits had ISU on their list on Rivals.

I'd like to go get Shaw and cut Johnson loose. Take the sure thing if we can.

I don't think we are going to really poach from anyone else, but it really helps us from getting poached.

    Re: Recruit Poaching

wow this was the first on me hearing about USF and i think Leavitt got hosed on this one considering the player even said it was just him grabbing the shoulder pads.. man some of these football players though are becoming wimps

just throwing this out there but does DMac get a look now? or hate to say it.. but wally?

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Recruit Poaching

We are pretty full already with kids that picked us the first time around.

I wonder if some of our early commits will be reviewed by the staff if better players are available and show they want to be here, but I don't see or hear any of that going on so far.

I am just glad I do not make my living trying to figure out what 18-19 year old is going to help me win games when they are 20-22!

Doubtful but I think our staff will be a little more hesitant to throw out a bunch of offers early next year.

Why? If they are the kids the staff wants then good for us. So we should hold some offers back and hope some recruit (who may or may not be better than the kid we could of got) will pick us in the last few weeks; then if he dosent we just offer some scrub.

OK you have me there. What I meant was maybe we don't offer the borderline guys as soon. I won't question what the staff does. I am just thinking maybe they will start to hold out a little more in the future. Probably not next year, but in years after that I continue to see the talent pool expand for us. If the staff wants a kid who isn't getting a lot attention, by all means offer. I just expect them to not throw out a bunch of offers so that we have a lot of possibilities. You get what I mean there?

Why? The earlier we get kids to commit, the better in my opinion. We got a good group doing it that way.
