    RV Tailgating

Just curious if anyone does their tailgating in the rv lots? We are thinking about doing it and we know that you have to donate at least $500 and the pass is another $100. Just looking for views, experiences, etc. Thanks

Yes we do and it's the best IMO. Kids can watch cartoons and movies, wives can stay warm, drinkers have a close (and clean) bathroom. The other RVers are very friendly and help each other out for the most part. I know it's a lot more work for the people that actually own the RV though.

Yeah, it's a ton of work for the owner, but worth it. We have a bus in the RV lot. The best part is that you can bring it down the day before (and tailgate the whole time if you want). Plus, you can leave it right there after the game if you can't drive home. If you like to smoke ribs or brisket, it's easy to do overnight. It's also easy to haul stuff there or drop stuff off. Definitely great for people who join the party...they have a home base.

You see everything from cheap painted school busses to $200k+ RVs. Some really cool setups with big flatscreens and smokers. I'd say that there is less crime (stealing) than especially the free lots.

I agree! It is absolutely the funnest way to tailgate ever. Plenty of room to store barbecue grills, flags, lights, poles, tents, food, drinks, laptops, people, pets, etc. all with the conveniences of home. Leave the RV all packed up during the football season and each game just throw in the food and drinks and off you go. On off weekends you can go traveling. Away games are a snap. No motels or restaurants to worry about.

There is a lot of interaction between the RVer's if that is desired or you can keep to yourself. It is an amazing feeling for me to pull into the RV lots on Friday afternoon and sit and have a beer within view of Hilton and the stadium.

The nicest thing about it is to be able to walk from the stadium after a game and in 10 minutes you are celebrating a victory in your RV. Then hangout enjoying the evening and leave on Sunday morning. I have tailgated for 38 years at Clyde Williams and Jack Trice and without a doubt the last 3 years in the RV lots have been the best by far.

It's the best. If you decide to go that route you'll never regret it! Regardless of the type of rig that you have, RVer's are the most friendly, helpful and protective group of people that you'll ever run into. It's even better that they're all Cyclones!

Sounds great guys! We have a travel trailer, so do we just leave things hooked up? In the pics, I can't really tell. (Which look great BTW) And also, when do you have to be out of the lots?

You must, according to the rules, leave the trailer hooked up to your tow vehicle while staying in the lots (some unhook theirs and don't seem to get in trouble). Leave time is by 10 AM on Sunday morning after the game, however campus security is pretty lenient on that.

I've attached a picture of a pretty typical travel trailer setup. This guy brings a portable generator that he sets down in the drainage way and hooks up to his trailer. Most will bring a portable satellite dish. The lots have WiFi access through the ISUPRESSBOX internet access point.

I did not know that. I'll have to try it out next year.

I was tipped off to the WiFi access by another RVer. That is not advertised at all by ISU, and I'm not sure that ISU even realizes that some of the RVers are doing it. So far, it works great.

    Re: RV Tailgating

Sorry to revive a dead post...

Do you think that there is anyway to get in the RV lot for only one or two games during the season? Split a pass? Watch Craigslist? Any tips from people who have done this in the past?

    Re: RV Tailgating

I hate to spoil your ambition but I believe the paved RV lots require a $1000 NCC donation plus the cost of the RV parking permit. Vet Med is GA RV parking on paved lots, for $40 a game (7 home games) $280 for the season is a lot better deal. May not be as close to Jack Trice but a lot of game the visiting team fans with RV park overnight at Vet Med which makes for a fun atmosphere.

Not spoiling anything. I would consider the donation, but it would go to waste since I can't make all the games. I would like to split with someone or "rent" someone's pass for the weekend.

There were a very few RVers that we come across that split both season tickets and the RV tailgating pass. They do that with close friends or relatives. Mostly you see the same people and RVs there (and usually in the same spot) every game. Good luck on finding someone to split it up with.

I am also interested in splitting a pass. Unfortunately, I am sure there is no way to get one this year, I am interested in planning for next (2013 Season)!
