2010 Olympic USA Hockey Roster Released

In case you missed the Winter Classic on New Years Day, USA Hockey has released their roster for the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Interesting developments here as they've ditched some of the old favorites like Tkachuk and Modano for a much younger squad.

Olympic Hockey is hands down my favorite sporting event. I am really looking forward to watching this group, and I think they have a legit shot at a silver or gold medal.

Fans of the Iowa Chops take note, RW Bobby Ryan made the list. He spent the first half of the season last year playing in Des Moines.

That team has some definite potential. Wouldn't have minded seeing some of the old dogs/future HOFers out there for leadership, but hopefully these guys bring back a medal.

Re: 2010 Olympic USA Hockey Roster Released

Team USA will certainly have a better shot than they've had in recent years.

Ryan Miller is probably the top goaltender in the world right now, and between Tim Thomas and him, they have the opportunity to steal games between the pipes.

The defense is unspectacular but steady and solid. Unlike the keepers, this group won't win games, but they certainly won't lose them. It's a young bunch that will have some fixtures on international teams for years to come.

Offensively I see this group being fairly hot and cold. They'll have two killer forward lines (something like Parise-Stastny- Langenbrunner, Malone-Kane-Kessel), but there's a fairly large drop-off after that.

I think Canada will be virtually unstoppable this year, and the Russians have a terrifying set of forwards, but the US has a good shot at Bronze. That said, if Miller gets hot they could overachieve.

I hope they do, but I can't see them getting a medal, what with teams like Russia, Canada, Finland, & Sweden.
