    Dick Jacobson

On Jim and Jim show tonight, they interviewed Jacobsen on the phone in regards to the Orange Bowl. Zabel also asked him about ISU as he is our largest donor, and that an OB win would cap his week given he supports both schools. Jacobsen then says that he didn't go to Phoenix and watch the game in person because he wasn't invited (paraphrase). He then made a couple off remarks about not being able to afford the tickets, etc., and Z went on to say that he was always welcome, but I took it as he thought he should have been invited by the ISU athletic department, but wasn't, so he didn't go.

    I hope I am wrong.

If he is our largest donor or even top 20 he probably should get a personal invite. Could be an expensive oversight on our part.

They invited someone with money...there was a nice Ferrari at the restaurant we ate at last night. It had Iowa dealer plates and an ISU hat sitting on passenger seat.

I don't know if your are being serious, or not, but if this is true, not a great way to treat our single largest athletic department donor. I think he has made the largest one-time donation - $5MM.

you don't seem to understand how the world works very well. It is a VERY good rate of return for us to pay for pimped out trips for our lead donors for say $10,000 to make sure that every few years we get say a few million.

no, I understand perfectly how it works, thank you very much. I'm just saying that for him to say he didn't go because he couldn't afford to is BS.

Word to this. Part of getting and keeping large donors is kissing their ***** when appropriate. And this would have been an appropriate time to do so.

    Re: Dick Jacobsen

Does ANYONE really think JP and company aren't in constant contact with donors of his ilk? Seriously? Thats like his most important job and to think he would neglect to ask/talk to Jacobsen is beyond belief. The bigger the story the easier it is to believe I guess - especially when it comes from a radio show with less than strong ties to our program.

    Re: Dick Jacobsen

I would be pretty surprised if Oklahoma State didn't find someplace in an OSU athletic department skybox or suite for T. Boone Pickens to watch the Cotton Bowl. But I'm not surprised about us ignoring our biggest donor.

Since he couldn't go in person, did he buy tickets anyway and donate them to some poor ISU fan who couldn't afford them? I'm pretty sure he was invited to do that.

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

My ignore list: splitidentity, tarheelhawk, superdorf, clones_jer. That is all.

A big donor like T. Boone Pickens would probably buy a couple thousand of tickets to help his program out and not expect a freebie.

I'm just guessing but I'm sure Pickens had his own suite with all the beer and food he could eat, and I'm guessing he picked up the tab. Because he is a real fan and donor, and doesn't expect the perk.

I'm thinking when your that rich, helping your program out and buying the tickets and going to the game on your own dime woiuldn't be a big deal.

Also, I'm sure Pollard being part of his job, talked to each big donor and explained things to them. Gave them options.

With our budget though, we really can't afford to give out alot of freebies. I'm sure the donors are willing to understand that. And if not, well, sorry but donate more so we have the money to afford it.
