The 86 Giants get the credit for it but there is actually film of the Bears doing it to Ditka I believe for a game in 1984.

It was going on as far back as the 1970's. George Allen got gatorade dumped on him on a real cold day and later died of pnemonia. After that happened I thought the practice would go away, at least on very cold days, but it still goes on.

Yeah, I didn't mean that was the first time it happened. I only mentioned it because it was memorable.

Allen's death may have been indirectly caused by a Gatorade shower. Allen died on December 31, 1990 from ventricular fibrillation in his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California at the age of 72. Shortly before his death, Allen noted that he had not been completely healthy since some of his Long Beach State players dumped a Gatorade bucket filled with water on him following a season-ending victory over the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on November 17, 1990.

    You learn something new everyday.
I always thought it originated from the Florida Gators early 1990's under
    Steve Spurrier.

I was a huge fan of the Bears in the 80s and I don't even remember this at all. However, Mongo McMichael and the Danimal were on top of the world and could do what they wanted back then.

It seems like it has been happening forever, but apparently not.

Good info guys, thanks. Me and a buddy we're wondering who it was and why they did it. By the way, who was the first ISU coach you remembering getting the "drink"? Jim Walden against Oklahoma when we won their in 1991?

That would be the first I can remember.I played from 1987-1991.
I remember the OU game of 1991 really well. Chris Pedersen and Blaise Bryant
definately doused Coach Walden TWICE at the end of that game.
I remember wishing that Bozworth was still around at the end of the game so
    I give return all the ******* ****** ******** ***** **** ***** *******
******** ********** ****** ********** that he dissed out in my early years.

My buddy Blaise Bryant doesnt get enough respect for being one he!! of a football player.
