    Defensive view after the win...

Honestly, the defense when it comes down to it is the reason we won the game along with any other win this year. But honestly the 'bend-not-break' concept can absolutely make a fan age 20x faster and possibly fear of dying from a heart attack. I know in our current defensive situation(lack of team speed and true athletes) this is really the only option, but honestly although I will tell you something different in 2-3 weeks, After that last Minnesota drive I am glad this season has come to a close, for health reasons(probably too Urban Meyer-esque). Now onto basketball and me yelling over telq k of rebounding and team D......

I've never been a fan of the "bend but don't break" defense, because usually they just bend, bend, bend and then break. This team remembered not to break, and almost always got tougher when their backs were to the wall.

When comparing the opponent's scoring average from 2008 to 2009, ISU has the second most improved defense in the nation. We were 7-0 in games where we gave up 24 or fewer points.

While everyone wants to talk about ARob and Austin, I think it's all about the D. Just look at the university to the east. Hopefully, Wally and company can continue the incredible improvement next year.

I just don't think we have the players to do anything but a "bend don't break" defense yet. Maybe in a year or two but the pass defense is really bad and until we get a good pass rush from the line it's going to stay that way.

Re: Defensive view after the win...

Our defense is the whole reason we were at a bowl game, and won a bowl game. I really think our defense has an oppurtunity to be better next year. We will really miss Lyle, Frere, Smith and Smith a lot, but our young guys have a chance to be A LOT better than those guys. If it doesn't quite happen next year, it will happen in 2011.

Sims is a beast. Hopefully our pass coverage improves because he may have NFL potential...

The defense, considering the talent and depth, was amazing this year.
