    Re: Practice report?

Some pictures I took from tonight. Jesse Smith was impressive. Ace Bowen is insane. Caleb Berg is a practice hero. I was pretty happy with the whole atmoshpere. Very intense. "We'll play in the parking lot" - Chizik

After watching the OL and DL though we are in for a tough year in the trenches. I kind of forgot how bad they were last year but they most likely wont be much better this year.

I also found a new favorite player, Justin Rumple. Anyone that can go tomorrow I highly suggest you do because it was very cool.

First thanks for the report, and the pictures.

I have to admit that I am surprised by your report. I have been told over and over, that our lines were going to improve, and we were going to win 7-9 games this Fall. Are you telling us that they are still a weak spot???

just rememebr that the new guys are not here yet, and its spring ball under new coaches, cant get to caught up yet..

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

Are you telling us that they are still a weak spot???
Um, Yes. I not at all an "expert" and they were only going in helmets so you have to take it with a grain of salt. But the DL was going through the motions for parts of the practice. Example, They were working on a speed drill by weaving through garbage cans and they were doing a crapping job so the DL coach had them do up-downs. Travis ferguson was pathetic during the up-downs and Tuba was slow as hell. We have a lot of room for improvment, whether we make it or not is another thing. It will be extremely interesting to see how these guys are doing in a month at the spring game. Chizik said in his interview that this was going to be an extremely physical spring which will help greatly.

I still think a lot of these guys aren't use to the higher intensity level. They are still use to the coaches being their friends like with DMac.

*I would also like to note Wayne Bolt. I was extremely impressed with him. Very vocal and not at all like I had envisioned him.

I think this is the point that needs to be emphasized.

And 5 more months of getting their rear ends beat will whip the lines to where they should be.

9 games? What? Where are you reading that? I don't think ANYONE is expecting us to win 7 games let alone 9 games.

It looked like in those pictures that Lamaak was working with the OL so does that mean he is making the switch to OL?

    Re: Practice report?

Nice job with the photos and info.

For anyone going tonight, I'd like to know about Ebner. I didn't see him on the depth chart at fullback and he was Kock's back-up last year. Did they move him to linebacker and he's not on the 2 deeps or something?

    I believe he's #26.

Just so I have this straight, you watch the first practice of the season for an hour or 2 and you are ready to say that our OL and DL are a write off for the season?

    Re: Practice report?

I didn't watch a single minute of practice but if you assume there are going to be a bunch of juco's come in and shore up a terribly weak offensive line, I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Not that it's impossible...but it's unlikely. Especially now that McMahon is gone.

That wasn't my point. I just know that I would have a very hard time making any statements on the strength of ANY area of our team by watching the first practice of the year in shorts.

    Re: Practice report?

All I am saying is that I forgot how bad they were last year and last night reminded me. I do believe that they will improve as time goes on but last night wasn't too impressive as far as the DL goes.
