Are people rethinking the strength of the Big 12

It seems like people could do nothing but bash Texas after struggling with the Huskers(who obviously are better than most thought), I wonder if they are changing their views on how strong the big 12 is this year. And maybe the Big 12 north wasn't too shabby either, mid season you had "experts" talking about how lousy it was...well pretty much every team in the north game Nebby all they wanted this year. I think the conference should be getting a bit more respect.

maybe revisit this question after all the bowl games are played?? it could also be that Arizona was just really bad?

Nebraska's gotta be wondering what could have been.

Had they beat us, beat Texas ... who knows.

Texas A&M's showing isn't going to help the Big 12 but I agree with st8, check back after all the games have been played.

Re: Are people rethinking the strength of the Big 12

You're summarizing the strength of a conference based on one meaningless bowl game?
I don't think the fact Texas struggled to beat Nebraska was unexpected. Nebraska is pretty good and played a great game until the last minute. Texas played average and they're very overrated IMO. Unless Alabama plays very poorly they're going to dominate Texas on both sides of the ball.

Exactly, I have a feeling it may have more to do with rethinking the strength of the Pac 10 anyway.

I don't think Arizona is that good at all... maybe Stoops just has one foot out the door and halfway to Lubbock already.

Re: Are people rethinking the strength of the Big 12

Let's look at what teams may get stronger next year. It doesn't seem to me the top is getting better. In fact, it may get worse. Nebraska will get better and I actually think right now they have a decent shot at winning the thing. Oklahoma will probably be a touch better, but Texas will be worse, OSU will likely be worse, Techs going to be in for a long, Kansas won't get better, COlorado....ha, Mizzou has potential but I guess I see them about the same next year as they were this year, KSU is staying where they are, we will be better but I don't know by how much. I think at this point I would have to say that the Big 12 projects, at very best as the third best conference. I could see them being the fifth best next year. The ACC has some good teams and the Big East has some real good teams. I don't think those two are better but if our top end teams aren't better next year we are in trouble.

I agree, someone is going to have to jump out and look like a contender to get some of the respect back. Nebraska will be good, Texas will be typical Texas (probably a 10 win team but won't be in the NC hunt, and I think OU will bounce back pretty well, they had a lot of young guys get playing time this year. I do think next year is a pretty good opportunity for the North to have a team win the big 12, with the exception of KU I think every team in the North should improve.

    PAC 10 sucks
Hopefully Oregon can beat Ohio State though.

I think that game was more a sign of how weak the Pac 10 is this year.

Re: Are people rethinking the strength of the Big 12

Remember though, Nebbie loses all-world half beast/half man Suh.

He is practically the sole reason their defense was so strong this year. They still have solid players but he will be very hard to replace. He made every position on that D better. Constant pressure up the middle is almost unstoppable from an offensive perspective.

With that being said, I think Mizzou and Nebbie are tops in the North next year with ISU nipping at their heels.

KU, KSU, and CU will be down IMO.

As for the south, UT will take a slight step back, OU will be back to prime form, & A&M will be better. OSU/Tech/Baylor are a crap shoot.

Re: Are people rethinking the strength of the Big 12

The SEC had a couple of top notch teams for sure. Other than that, I think every other conference pretty much fell into a bunch of mediocre teams with one shining team in each. Other than Texas, I don't think the Big XII is any stronger than the Big 10, who isn't any stronger than the PAC 10, Big East, etc.
