    Snow removal Costs

    Snow-Removal Bills Leave States Scrambling - WSJ.com

Elsewhere, however, officials say they have no choice. In Colorado Springs, Colo., for instance, the city will no longer plow residential streets unless at least six inches of snow has accumulated.
And in Minneapolis, Mayor R. T. Rybak cut the snow-removal work force to 80 from 134 (though he did bring back several dozen workers temporarily to handle a big storm earlier this month). His goal: to trim the snow-removal budget by 17% in 2010.
"The cross-country skier in me wants the snow," Mr. Rybak said. "But the mayor in me wants 35 degrees and sunny."

Auburn paid about $180k more per win. But their TV revenue vs. ISU's more than makes up for it. Even in Iowa, we get better TV coverage of Auburn than ISU.

    Iowa State:
    Paul Rhoads $950,000
Robert McFarland $283,250 (thru June 2010)
    Wally Burnham $275,000
    Tom Herman $250,000
    Bill Bleil $150,000
Wayne Bolt $147,500 (thru June 2010)
    Courtney Messingham $120,000
    Kenith Pope $120,000
    Curtis Bray $120,000
    Shane Burnham $100,000
    Luke Wells $100,000
    Yancy McNight $100,000

    ISU Total: $2,715,750

    ISU Cost per win = $2,715,750/6 = $452,625

    Auburn:

    Gene Chizik $1,900,000
    Ted Roof $370,000
    Gus Malzahn $350,000
    Trooper Taylor $320,000
    Tracy Rocker $300,000
    Jeff Grimes $290,000
    Curtis Luper $260,000
    Tommy Thigpen $250,000
    Phillip Lolley $210,000
    Jay Boulware $210,000

    Auburn Total: $4,460,000

    Auburn Cost Per Win: $637,142

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.

Monty, lets stay on topic.....unless you believe that Auburn and ISU can solve the snow removal dilemma.

    Re: Snow removal Costs

Omaha is already $1.6 million over the snow removal budget for the year, and they've got a ton of work left to do. Lots of places the turn lanes are still full of snow (3-4 feet high) and occasionally you have 3 lanes shoot down to 1.5 lanes. Not to mention all the potholes that have cropped up due to that warm spell before the last storm.

Looks like you need to add "snow" to your ignore list as well.

Can someone tell MNCyGuy I am unable to quote or respond to him in this thread because he lacks a forum signature? TIA.

We need a January thaw to help clean up this mess. Of course that will only add to the pothole problem and they are already in mid spring form.

    Re: Snow removal Costs

People in the snow removeal business don't make much money on the 12 inch snows. They make thier money on the 3-4 inch snows. It does however seem to cost the owner more??

Yeah I would suppose taller snows would take longer and probably burn more fuel?

I would say that depends on exactly what they do for snow removal. If it is pushing or just moving you're correct, they don't turn the profit because of the increase in time it takes and the usually flat rate price structure. If it is actual removal, like blowing or hauling out, they make money in the same proportion because that is usually hour based.

It's all snark from here on out
