New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford

Per DM Register online article, New Mexico has asked Barta for permission to speak with Alford. I predict Alford will be new coach at UNM by the beginning of next week. The Hawks will immediately target Lon Krueger as their new head coach. Just a prediction, no inside info on this.

I think Dana Altman will be their first choice, but you could have a point with Kruger.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford

It's amazing to me what a win or two in the NCAA tournament can do for you. This time last week I didn't even know Lon Krueger was coaching anymore, and now his name is being toss around for major jobs around the country. There is a reason he coaching his fourth 20 win team folks. Personally, I would not be excited at all for him coming to my program... but then I don't have much to worry about.

    Re: Alford to NM???

It's the best of all possible worlds for Barta. He has a divided fanbase. He has a coach that has won some big games, yet has never gotten his program over hump. If Alford goes to New Mexico, Barta gets rid of his problem, and he doesn't have to pay any severence or buyout.

I read someone say Kruger, and that is possible, but I think that they will target Marshall from Winthrop, or Lowery from Southern Illinois.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford

I just can't see him succeeding there. He's a Big Ten guy and was supposed to have tons of connections but that obviously didn't pan out. What benefit does he have at New Mexico?

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Exactly. Somewhere, Barta is releasing a sigh of relief over this.

Re: New Mexico officially asks for permission to talk to Alford

If you've seen the interviews on ESPN w/ Lon Kruger that I have, Kruger and his family really enjoy Las Vegas. Personally, I think it's gonna take a better job than the black hole known as EIU to pull him away from UNLV.

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

It's funny how reading this, I imagined his form of releasing relief as being a fart.
