    Jack Trice Expansion

I just stumbled across some info about the proposed expansion in the end zone. Do you all have any idea what kind of timetable there is for this project and how many seats it will add?

    Thanks!

The mock ups look pretty sharp. I hope you all get it done soon! We're talking about a possible expansion, but we don't know if that means filling in the bowl in the South Endzone or adding a second deck on the East Grandstand. There is some condition about averaging a certain number of fans over a 5 year period. I never thought I would hear that kind of talk during my time at Mizzou in the early-mid 90's.

    Re: Jack Trice Expansion

    basically its down to this.
I think the AD Dept. wants to just get the lower Bowl done with footings for expansion down the road (whenever or at all)
Replace the Sound and Audio and do a few more things around the stadium and call it good for awhile.

By not doing the 2nd deck it would save some money, but we still need a big donor. Winning would really help our cause. We will need a lot of help privately because of the position the Board of Regents and the State budget is right now.
There are a lot of doubters out there to why we should be doing this at all. People think we can't fill the stadium, the stadium is fine etc. The anwser to that is we might be the only BCS Stadium or at least one of the very few with 2 open endzones and our sound system sounds "not so good" We don't really add seats by doing a lower bowl the South, b/c we already have a WT version right now.

I have no inside info, but that is what I understand after reading about 50,000 post on this subject.

Whatever will we do with a 60,000+ seat stadium when we join the MAC? Oh, that's right, we'll need the added capacity because we'll be winning conference championships every year and our tickets will become hot commodities...

Selling seats in key. What is worse, not having a full stadium or havign 2 open endzones? It is a waste of money to build this when we cannot fill the stadium we have now for every game.

you should build to be able to hold your largest crowds to gather that revenue if that added revenue would pay for the building over time. The fact that there might be empty seats the rest of the time is unsightly but not a reason not to do it. It is all about revenue.

If it can pay for itself year after year than fine build it. But if you are going to build it for 1 game a season, for Nebraska and Iowa fans, and have it lose money why do it?

For what its worth and I could be wrong on these numbers....
    Current:
    42K Grandstands
    3.5K South Bleachers
    9-10K for hills
55K Capacity (looks like crap may I add)

    Projected:
    42K Grandstands
8K ish for south endzone lower bowl (make cheaper tickets and GA in the corners)
5K ish for North GA for BIG GAMES only.
50K Capacity if we only allow people in seats and 55K Total Capacity if we allow the north hills.

I've argued this one with you before. I think it matters a LOT more for recruiting than anything and a lot of times, that is when the stadium is completely empty after the season or in the summer. If we're talking lower level, that would be the same capacity with a probable higher charge for seating (hillsides vs real seats). I don't know that that makes the payment...it depends on the amount they can get from a big donor. If we're talking both levels, I do think that the additional fan dollars from iowa/nebraska, not to mention big crowds for early games like UNI will get close to making the payment (again depending on initial donation).

One thing I know for sure, even just the lower level will dramatically improve the atmosphere at games and make the stadium seem more big-time. And that should help sell tickets to all games.

    Re: Jack Trice Expansion

The only place it'd look empty is in the same place it occassionally looks empty now- the upper corners. Getting butts in the South endzone has never been a problem because of the more attractive price $. If Pollard wanted to be really greedy he could stop offering the North hillsides. But none of this really matters because I predict we'll still be talking about this ten years from now, just like we were talking about it ten years ago.
