    ISU begins partial shutdown

Found this on the Omaha World Herald site. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here.

Me, too. Seems like a smart idea. The school I'm working through is doing the same thing in PA.

Very smart. Makes you wonder why they haven't done this before?

Most Professional and Scientific staff and Faculty and some merit are taking at least some of their furlough days during this break. I took a couple days vaca this week and furlough the 4 working days next week. the "shut down" was determined by each department and most participated because it provides staff that wouldn't normally take that much time off with a good reason to do so.

    Re: ISU begins partial shutdown

I'm not taking furlough until 2010. I want people to not expect me at work or to work when I'm on furlough. That's the point of furlough. Besides, the pay decrease is coming out automatically Jan - June 2010 so it doesn't really matter when you take your days.

BTW, the closing down doesn't prohibit anyone who wants to work from working. You just have to be prepared for weekend temperatures and to have your key to enter your building.

    Re: ISU begins partial shutdown

The wife is taking it now for our trip to the bowl game. Now she'll get the same amount of days off around Xmas and New Years as I do. DOnt know why they dont do this every year and make it permanent. They get plenty of vacation and sick days, they could at least make them use those and shut down the university.
