    Is this it?

I've been looking at all of the bowl predictions for the Insight Bowl, and all anybody mentions about ISU, is their 99th ranked defense? These pundits seem to know nothing else other than that stat. In closing,is this the same minnesota team that failed to score an offensive TD against South Dakota State?

    Re: Is this it?

One analyst (can't remember who) said we may have the ultimate 'rope-a-dope' defense as we have the 99th defense in total yards, but are in the low 40's for scoring defense...

Yes you are correct. They said we are the ultimate "Rope-A-Dope". #99 in yards per game, but #44 I believe in PPG.

Isn't ISU in the Top 25 in red-zone defense?

    Bend but don't break.

Stats can lie. Think of all the big plays that we gave up that started outside the redzone and went for touchdowns. Those don't count in redzone statistics.

But the yards allowed compared to points allowed does make a case for our "bend but don't break" defense.

Yeah, but think of how many times we pwned Noobraska in the red zone...

You can't deny it, we have some issues on Defense, but we have improved 100% compared to last year. Rome was not built over night.

Thank God we play Minny with a bad offense, that should make us look a little better.

That is why is is called redzone defense and not total-field defense. It measures how defenses do with their back against the wall

Can we just accept that national pundits don't know anything about ISU and move on???

    Re: Is this it?

For what its worth, I spoke with one of the ISU players tonight and he seems 100% confident that ISU will have no problem with the Gophers. Sounds like CPR is really getting these guys ready for this game.

The national pundits may have seen a few highlights from the nebraska game, and looked a our W-L record and a few stats....99% would be lucky to name more than 1 player on our team.

    Re: Is this it?

Often times national guys have a really good view of ISU sports, it is just not as sugar coated as things are around here.

If I was an outside guy, I would see a fairly average to below average offense and a defense that gives up a lot of yards. Add an average kicking game and there is not much to talk about.

Our top two playmakers have been hurt quite a bit this year, making it hard ot get excited about individual offensive performance. We unfortunately have probably the worst/ least exciting group of WRs in the Big 12 (since Money's injury).

I am surprised that they do not talk about our pretty good offensive line.
