What A Great Bunch Of Teammates

Eagles vote humbled Vick courage award, PETA objects - NFL - CBSSports.com Football

I guess for a few million bucks, courage can be bought.

I really, really hope that he truly has turned his life around. I believe in 2nd chances, and hope he's doing things right now. I hate seeing such talent go to waste. And I would say that even if he wasn't playing for the Eagles this season. He's saying and doing all the right things now. I hope it's legit, and I hope he sticks with it, even next year when he's not with the Eagles anymore, most likely...

I see what you are saying, but this is about the furthest thing from courage I have ever seen. Tell me what part of knowingly taking part in an illegal activity for many years, getting caught, serving your sentence, and expressing some regerts is courageous? There is no courage there...just stupidity and regrets.

Remind me again of what your opinion of the "Red Light Camera" thread was again?

(Yeah, yeah, I know - dogfighting >>> speeding/running red lights)

Anyway, anybody who is forced to have to take a stand against PETA, whether they actually did something wrong or not, IMO is courageous. Those people are straight loony and I fear what lengths they would go to to make their point.

What did I miss here? Who took a stand against PETA?

BTW - yes, this is a crock. Not that I really care. But this is anti-courageous. He got out of jail and is playing football again. Erect a statue of him.

Seems to me he did his time and served his punishment. Time to move...

Oh, yeah. I don't think any of this makes him courageous. That seems to be a crock to me. I was just commenting on the entire Vick situation, in general...

Simple proof that athletes are paid for their physical ability, not their critical thinking skills.

Re: What A Great Bunch Of Teammates

Found this on another message board and liked how this guy wrote it:

Michael Vick was given an award for "Courage" by his teammates.

He beat out Desean Jackson who's father passed away from cancer at the start of the season.

According to ESPN, Vick was honored, but knew he deserved the award. Vick said, "I've overcome a lot--more than any individual person could."

Sure gotta feel sorry for the guy. After all, he had the bad luck to get caught doing a crime. Yet he had the courage to serve his hard time, even the part of it where he was confined to his own house. It wouldn't surprise me if they made him wash his own dishes.....ah, the inhumanity of it all....

And by the way, this season Vick has completed 6 passed for 86 yards. Quite an accomplishment considering all the grief he's had to bear.

Re: What A Great Bunch Of Teammates

I am not an advocate of Vick at all.

I believe giving him the "courage" award may be due to the fact that he is moving forward with his life in spite of millions of naysayers and people who despise him. Wouldn't be an easy life... and rightfully so.

I'm not saying that Vick is right in anything he has done, but the way people have gone after him when there are people implicated in murder playing in the league who are getting less scrutiny is hypocritical.

Re: What A Great Bunch Of Teammates

I do find the irony that people that rail on vick, fail to do anything about other criminals who do the same thing. Do you see federal charges and PETA getting all this coverage over other individuals that have **** fighting rings or dog fighting? No. Do you see federal charges against men who hit females? No, but what happens to Chris Brown. Yeah that spotlight plays a roll in it, but honestly he made a mistake, and IMO doesn't desrve all the **** slinging that gets thrown his way. I do hope he turned his life around, but really in the reality of things dog fighting isn't the most serious things, its not like he mugged someone, attempted to murder someone, or was on the level of Pac Man Jones.
