is there a team? I dont get the whole NCAA hockey leagues and all that. I remember hearing on the way to the ISU-EIU basketball game, a commercial for the Hockey team saying "ISU hockey will kick your ice" any info on this?

There is a club team that plays from September-March at the Ice Arena south of Towers. I don't believe they are affilated with the NCAA. They play in the ACHA and are one of the better teams I believe.

I have been to some of the games before, there is a small pep band and usually a rukus crowd. I would reccomend going for the experience, its a good time.

I had season tickets when I was a student. They are a ton of fun to go to. I would definately recommend checking a game out sometime. It is a club team, and they are good. At least they were a few years back.

Back in "the day", ISU Hockey was the best sport on campus to go see. There was beer for sale, the team was good, and the crowd was crazy. Then the city built a new ice arena and made hockey a family experience. Personally, I think they screwed up a good thing.

Something they fail to mention in a lot of publications is the ISU hockey team is a CLUB team. I've seen many ads that fail to mention they are a "CLUB"

I left Ames before the new arena was built but the old one south of Towers was priceless. It was dangerous for players and fans alike in there. Someone was going to get KO'd with a hockey puck at some point in the evening, mostly someone in the crowd. There were uneven rink walls, the glass was in bad shape, there were exposed nails all over the place in the stands and around the ice itself. The smell of ice and stale beer was energizing. I remember there being some seemingly permanent blood stains on the rink walls. Man, I miss ISU Hockey.

I remember there being talk at one point of making it a Varsity sport (NCAA), but there weren't enough women's sports available to meet the requirements.

Who cares that they are a club team. They would be Varsity if the school had it in the athletic budget. There is a big difference between Club hockey and other club sports. This isn't like the club Ultimate team where people show up to a meeting and they are on a team. Then they go around to regional tournements.
The hockey team has an actual coach, they recruit players to come play for them, and they represent Iowa State in competition with NCAA programs around the country.
Here is a link to their page.

    Are you serious?

They are a club team but they play other schools, not just random hockey teams. The play Illinois, Iowa, North Dakota State, Mizzou, Oklahoma, etc.

Here is there website and schedule:

Also, they had a good 05-06 season finishing 6th in all of ACHA losing to Illinios in the Quarter Finals round of the National Tournament.

These guys aren't just a bunch of students that go play hockey on the weekends. They are well coached and players are recruited. Someone else pointed this out as well.

They dont play the other schools Varsity teams, they play their club teams. When they play Minnesota, its not their top team; its those that couldnt make it. They advertise like they are playing the D1 Varsity teams.
