    Need serious help!!

My girlfriend has a year old beagle that sleeps with her. We don't live together so when I come over he sleeps right in between us. So I have tried to put him in his kennel but all he does is bark and cry. We have a bark collar that we put on him and that works for about 4 hours but then is crying and barking again so she goes and gets him and brings him into bed with us. This is really starting to p** me off and want it to stop. The bad thing is, the dog is very stubborn. We put him in his kennel one night at her parents, he barked and cried for around 2 hours. So finally she went and got him cause we didnt want to keep everyone awake in the house all night! So I am taking suggestions on how to keep him in his kennel all night without barking. Thanks Fanatics!!

Keep him in the kennel..he will get used to it. Luckly our dog liked the kennel when we first got her, and now she doesnt ever want to come out of it.

Beagles are extremely stubborn. Keep it in the kennel, and it should get used to it eventually.

That should work. Otherwise it's time to tell the girlfriend that somebody is going to leave and it better be the dog.

Always give the dog a treat so that it associates getting in the kennel with a reward (positive).

Build the dog a doghouse and kennel and put it outside.

Get a kong and put some stuff in there, should help for a bit and reduce anxiety when going into the kennel.

    Re: Need serious help!!

It is hard to go "backwards" with this type of thing. I would bet you will have a heck of a time trying to get it to stay in the kennel. Really the only way is by will-power: just let him cry. He isn't going to hurt himself or anything so the crying is just because he doesn't like it.

This was 100% the reason why I wouldn't let my wife let our new puppy sleep with us at first...

Yep, this thread has just been pwned.

Is the kennel in the same room? Might start with kennel in room if it's not and go from there.

Don't ever give a girl an ultimatem with her pet. One of two things will happen:

    1. you will lose.
    2. you will win and she will despise you for it.

I agree with this. Make sure you point the kennel so that he knows you're there, and if he still barks I'd put the kennel in the garage or basement so you can't hear it.

At her apt, the kennel is in the living room and I have found out that it could help moving his kennel in the same room. But now that I think about it, up at her parents house the dogs kennel is in her room. So this doesn't really help.

Another thing you could try is leave a TV or a radio on for him near the kennel. It will give them company.
