    Pickup Basketball (AMES)

Can anyone enlighten me on regular pickup basketball games in Ames that a rusty and out of shape 38 year old would be welcome at?

Haven't played much regular basketball since intramurals at ISU. I played periodically after college through my 20's but it has been several years now since I laced 'em up. I would like to find a group to play with that would be a little understanding while I was knocking the rust off.

State and Beyer are still open to non-students aren't they? Personally, I wouldn't be worried about keeping up there. I'm 38 too and I play regularly with younger guys including a few high schoolers from Wichita Heights (Kansas 4A state champions last year). No, the group does not include Perry Ellis. They can run faster and jump higher, but my elbows are sharper, my butt is harder to get around. It about evens out.

While on the matter, I'm always up for some in Ankeny or Des Moines. I have a YMCA membership if that helps.

    State is closed.

Beyer is nearly impossible to get into anymore due to Rec Renovation and not enough court space for all of those who want to play.

Lied you need an access card. Beyer and State go to access cards Fall 2011.

There's a gym downtown, west side of the City Hall building. I know there are some guys that play over the noon hour, but other than that I have no idea what the open hours are.

I'd be up for something in the DSM area as well. I'm on the West side and would prefer to keep it close.

I'm 35. I haven't played in years but I used to be a pick-up junkie at the Rec Center back in College. I run to stay in shape so I think I'd be good enough to jump in and play but I'm sure my shot and dribbling need work. The challenge is finding an open gym and competition that is fitting.

I'd like to find something where we could play some novice level ball and then grab a beer. If anyone knows of such a thing or would like to try to start something, reply or PM.

Edit: I just realized that this was meant to be an Ames thread. Sorry about the Hijack.

Only works if you're a student, ISU employee, or spouse of staff member.

I'd be down to play some pick up ball. We tried to get a CF softball game together but couldn't get the numbers. I'd think we could get enough CF's to get some pick up bball games in.

I am interested in a league. School ball isn't fun when there is 50 kids playing
