Cubs and their center fielder options

The Cubs are in need of a center fielder after the trade of Milton Bradley, but they are not leaning towards any particular candidate, according to Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. According to sources, Marlon Byrd and Scott Podsednik are the strongest options on the open market. However, the duo writes that GM Jim Hendry may also look into striking a deal with the Yankees for Brett Gardner or Melky Cabrera if they become available.

So Cubs fans who do you want?

Byrd, no doubt. Hendry's bad at his job though, so nothing is going to happen.

Re: Cubs and their center fielder options

I'd like to leave Fuk in CF if we can acquire a good RF.
Cf options are slim ...while RF options(via trade) look better.

I agree. Fukudome just looks natural out in center, and has a cannon for an arm. I remember last year Theriot, I think it was, saying that Fukudome is the best center fielder he's ever played with. I think you leave him there and find somebody for right. No need having two of the three outfielders with little to no power.

Is death an option? I think I'd rather bring up Fuld than roll the dice on free agent contracts.

Re: Cubs and their center fielder options

I expect the saved 6 mill to go towards the bullpen.
    Matt Capps said this today.
Capps said. "Like I talked about before, I want to be in a winning environment, and I want to see what the best opportunity is for me personally and the best opportunity for the team to win is, and we'll go from there. There's just as good a chance of me being a Cub as being anybody else. "
I'm hoping(expecting) the OF situation gets resolved via trade instead of signing crap like Bryd or Podsennick.

Re: Cubs and their center fielder options

God I'll be ****** if the Yankees trade away Gardner or the Melk man. Gardner is a game changer with the ability to steal a base at will and Melky plays a pretty decent center field.

Re: Cubs and their center fielder options

I would love the Cubs to trade for Gardner.I've heard that Colvin,Jackson and Hart might be enough.... but I doubt it.

Ok, honestly, I've come around on Byrd a little. His stats are inflated playing at Texas,but.... He'll provide average offense and defense in center field. I don't have a huge problem with him, I just would've preferred Cameron.
