    Kansas or Texas?

Just watched both of these teams. In my opinion, Texas looks like the much deeper and athletic squad. They both appear to have players with extraordinary basketball IQs and both are well coached.

It seems like Texas has the edge, BUT Balbay would scare me to death late in games. He couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Is the PG position enough to tilt the advantage to Kansas. I'm not sure. Both teams are **** good, but which is better? Do we honestly have a chance against either of them?

Hope we can take down Texas in our first Big 12 game at Hilton.

I think Texas looks a tad better at this point.

We always have a chance against Texas or Kansas when it's at Hilton.

I've never been too impressed with Barnes' coaching. Damn good recruiter, not sold on his coaching yet.

Can we play with them, yes. If we try and win a track meet, we're in deep **** against either team.

Yeah I fully expect our game plan to slow the tempo down, because I am very doubftul we can play the full court game at their speed.

In the games at Hilton, I fully expect us to alternate running and slowing it down to keep them on their toes. However, we have to learn how to rebound before we can worry about running.

I personally think Kansas looks very, very good. They are one deep team.

    Re: Kansas or Texas?

Good question. I don't really know which is better. They both have strengths and weaknesses (albeit few).

Texas does have more depth, but depth is a little bit of a misnomer in basketball. Often, its better to let five guys who are really in sync play 30-35 mins a game than to constantly rotate guys in and out and disrupt the flow. Remember some of the great Cyclone basketball teams that routinely beat top ten teams like KU, OSU, OU in Hilton often did it only playing 6 or 7 guys a game. Dedric's teams beat Kansas at Hilton only playing 7 guys while Kansas had "depth" and played 10. I think depth is more important in an extremely physical game like football.

Anyway, in response to the OP, we definitely have a chance. It's sad that people these days say that when Top 10 teams come into Hilton. I remember the looks on the faces of some of the players when they would come into Hilton and I'd be screaming my head off. It was kind of like "whoah, who are these crazies?" I hope that still exists at Hilton although it appears pretty tame on TV these days.

If the crowd is jumping and acting psycho - during the game, particularly on defense, not just after we score - we definitely have a good shot. We've beat highly ranked teams in Hilton with less talent in the past. Hope we can do it again.

    Re: Kansas or Texas?

Barnes' teams always hit the boards. They did at Providence, they did at Clemson, and they certainly do it at Texas.
They had 30 - thirty - offensive rebounds today. Against UNC. Incredible.

Yes. Our rebounding is going to have to improve to win.

There were also 10 to 20 more possessions per team in that game than our usual games (I would guess) as it was a track meet. I don't know when the shot clock ever got below 10 seconds except once Texas started stalling a little. More possessions equal more opportunities to rebound. Still, 30 offensive rebounds is amazing.

Kansas is good. Their guards are really, really good. Texas has really, really good big men. Pick your poison.

    Re: Kansas or Texas?

Good query. Hard to say, I think they are pretty even and would split if they were in the same division. Would be nice to get an upset at Hilton this year, but nothing the current staff has done the past 3+ years suggests this will happen.
