    Xavier vs. Butler

So, did anyone else see the clock stop for a couple of seconds while the ball was still in play in the backcourt? Then Butler brought it back up and made a basket with 1.2 seconds left to take the lead.

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

And now they just let the clock run out without giving Xavier a chance at it. The officials decided that the time would have ran out had the clock not been stopped but the shot still would have gotten through.....and now some fighting is starting.....

Saw this. I thought, with everything calculated in (Using my own Stopwatch too) that Xavier should've had 0.4 seconds at the end.

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

by the logic they used, one can make the argument that Butler would not have got that shot off. What a horrible way to end the game...

I didn't see it, but that sounds like some of the shadiest officiating ever. Since the time keepers screwed up, they should've left the clock alone at the end of the game.

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

They must have calculated that 1.2 - 1.8 seconds elapsed when the clock stopped. They need drop this part of the replay rules. I understand that you may need it at the end of the game to see if a player gets a shot off before the clock goes zero, but you shouldn't be ending games like this. What if Butler had been watching the clock and shot the ball with 1.0 seconds left, would they have let that shot count?

Thought that should have been added in.

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

That looked realllly bad by the officials.
I see where Xavier would be upset by this one.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

The thing is that no one would have had any complaints with the clock staying at 1.2 seconds. Neither coach was protesting the clock situation and there was no reason to review it that long. If there was any doubt what was going on then you shouldn't change the clock. If you watched during the 10 minute discussion, the refs were arguing amongst themselves what should happen.

    Re: Xavier vs. Butler

I just saw the replay. Butler won on a layup, so the officials must have concluded that the clock should've run out after the ball left the BU player's hands, but before it went through the hoop. That maybe .5 sec? No way the refs should've been able to (or even tried to) measure the clock stoppage that precisely.
