    Bad Gift Givers

I know that the holiday isn't about the gifts but do any of you have any serial bad gift givers in your family. I have one in particular that is just terrible. It's like they are trying to actually get something bad. It's been comical over the years but now that I have kids it's sad.

I got what they told me were "Italian Soaps" but the price tag is from Dollar General, and they are literally decorative soaps. I can live with it but my kids were just devestated. Of course we tried to use it as a learning moment but it's still hard.

My brother is a serial bad wrapper. Duct tape, foam board, he's used everything except concrete to wrap his packages (and since he's studying that in grad school, i'm just waiting for the day...)

My Grandmother once bought a sweater from good will for my dad and it happened to be the same sweater he donated a couple weeks before. She always seems to do something like this once a year but it is the thought that matters.

    Re: Bad Gift Givers

There was a girl I dated in college who would always immediately make sure I got a gift receipt as soon as she opened the gifts I got her, and then sure enough, she'd return whatever I bought for her.

I used to think that maybe I was just a bad gift giver, but since she's the only one that has ever done this, I'm convinced that she was just an ungrateful biotch. That, and she went to iowa, so it only makes sense that she would act so blatantly vain and cold-hearted.

You really shouldn't have given her framed pictures of your manhood unless it was in a really nice frame.

It was one of those frames with an inscription on it that you buy at a mall kyosk. Pretty sure it was brushed silver and it read, "This here is Rocky, and he ain't no puppy."

I think you should probably teach your kids what the true meaning of Christmas and the holiday season is, that way they won't end up being devastated by gifts that they deem as unworthy. /Linus van Pelt

When I was about 18 I got a gift from my grandfather's new wife (they were well into their 70's). The gift was a can of imported candies. I had just been diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Also the tag said "To: David" my name is Dustin, dammit.

You date a girl from the U of Iowa...what else would you expect? You have much to learn.

My mom buys me clothes she likes, not what I like. Its awesome because she tries to dress me like an old man.

    Re: Bad Gift Givers

I used to have a grandma that would give me gifts that clearly showed she had no idea or didn't care how old I was. I got a Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame watch when I was like 13.

Here's some good stories about bad christmas gifts.

    Re: Bad Gift Givers

My uncle is pretty bad. He was the youngest in my dad's family, and when I was a little kid he got all of his siblings and their children this board game called "Penji". It turns out he found a pallet of these games getting thrown away outside of a Shopko because no one was buying it, and got it for free. Nowadays we do one of those "Yankee" gift exchanges where you can steal presents, and his are always the weakest. One year he stuck a used snow shovel in a garbage bag. Of course the entire handle stuck out of the bag so everyone knew what it was.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.
