Surprised there isnt at least one post about last nights opening showing!

Quite possibly one of the most hyped movies (certainly the most expensive) ever, and I must say that it did pull through. I'm not going to give a summary because you can find one just about anywhere. Was it the best movie of all time? Most certainly not. The actual story is actually pretty decent but there are some really corny parts in it.

To me personally, this was the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. If you see it, make sure you see it in 3D. There were times during the movie where I actually felt like I was on Pandora (the alien planet). Times when things were happening on screen and I felt like I was actually part of it. James Cameron set out to make you feel like you were actually there and I think he did it. The action scenes, especially the 10-15 minute battle at the end are just ridiculous.

It's almost 3 hours long, but I can honestly say that it felt like I watched a 2 hour movie max. The film moves so quickly and flows so well, you forget that youre actually watching a movie. The theater I saw it at said it was Not Rated, so I'm not sure what the actual rating was. There was a bit of swearing, nothing like Boondock Saints, Big Lebowski or Glengarry Glen Ross though. I didnt catch any F bombs, so I guess in the realm of swear words, it wasnt too bad?

I would definitely put this movie under the category of "Must See", but I would have to add the subtitle in: In 3D. The 3D experience is what absolutely made this movie and I really dont think that the experience would be near the same without it. Enjoy!

If you ever get a chance to head over to G4 and see the interview Attack of The Show did with Cameron, its pretty good. He explained all of the tech that was created for it. Amazing stuff. Even if the movie flops, the tech designed for movie and tv viewing in the future will be amazing.

I have every intention of seeing it in 3D when I see it. I was thinking of going to the theater that is about a 1/2 mile from my house tomorrow morning. If it doesn't look too crowded for the first showing (11:40) I'll go ahead and watch it. Other than that I will probably wait a couple of weeks.

I guess it depends on how old of a kid and what you want your kid to hear/see. If you dont mind a few s words and a words, then youre fine. Theyre all used "appropriately". It's mostly a loud mouthed Military guy doing all of the swearing. All of the other elements of the movie though are pretty kid friendly. I didnt think the story or dialogue were too deep for a kid not too get. There isnt any more blood in the movie than you would see in Harry Potter. There is a lot of shooting at the end, but you dont actually see a lot of people getting shot like you would in a war movie. If I had to put an age limit on it, I'd say 10? If you let your kids watch PG-13, then this movie is absolutely fine.

I wasnt at first either. I thought it looked pretty dumb actually. But after I read a few reviews of the visuals and the 3D experience, I had to check it out. Like I said, it does not disappoint in that department.

Terrible? No. Fantastic? No. Like I said, there are definitely some corny moments, but the story itself is fine. PC as in politically correct? No. But politically charged yes. It is incredibly an anti-war movie. All about country A invading country B for resources and country A wants to deal with the people of country B humanely...by threatening them to leave or kill them. So I suppose its a bit like Earnest Goes to Camp....actually, its a lot like Earnest Goes to Camp, wow I never realized that until now. They get painted up for battle and everything in Avatar.

I get dizzy in IMAX's and the screen is just too big for me too see everything. I think the regular theater is perfect because there is just so much to take in visually.

Well I mean come on, Cameron's stories havent exactly always been fantastic: The first Terminator was pretty goofy IMO, T2 had its corny moments. Who would buy this whole Titanic bit? Seriously, an unsinkable ship hitting an iceberg? T3 flat out sucked. True Lies was awesome. In other words, his movies all have that wow factor but stories that arent going to go down in history as the greatest story ever told.

I was kind of excited about your assessment of Avatar until this. Of all his movies, True Lies is the "awesome" one? I can see "entertaining if you go in with low expectations."

    Re: Avatar

There are so many problems with this story (the noble savage conciet being the biggest...The Blind Side, I'm also looking at you) that I have a hard time imagining myself enjoying it....unless the spectacle is worth the price of admission...

Also aliens with USB ports built in? Lame
    Unobtainium? Lame
