Big Ten expansion and Director's Cup

We have been talking a lot about the expansion of the Big Ten lately and I have yet to see anyone put up anything about the Director's Cup. We have talked about the academic side of things with the AAU or whatever it is. We have talked about geography and how teams fit in that way. Well here is the athletic side of things. We have all talked about how these possible teams would benefit the conference for football/basketball but we have left out all of the other sports. Well here is my compilation of data from the director's cup standings. I hope this works

It is clear that the Big 10 will be happiest with Notre Dame

Re: Big Ten expansion and Director's Cup

Yeah, Notre Dame would be 4th in the BXI, and is only six-tenths of a point behind 3rd-place Penn State. Nebraska is solidly in the middle. Iowa State, Rutgers, and Syracuse are all way outside the BXI (27-point difference). Pitt is WAAAAAAAY outside. Pitt, Syracuse, and Rutgers have been consistently low in the last 10 years, but ISU shows a dramatic upswing starting in 2006. If you remove the early years of this decade, we're much closer to a BXI match, but we're still 10 points below the bottom of that conference.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

And currently I believe we are at 38th. This will possibly be our best finish yet in the DC.

Something else that probably hurts us, no baseball. Thanks for that BVD.

Re: Big Ten expansion and Director's Cup

    ND is out

If the Big Ten goes to 12 it will be Rutgers vs Missouri

If they go to 14 the new big rumor

    1. Missouri and Rutgers
    2. Nebraska

If you have a problem - if no one else can help - and if you can find
them - maybe you can hire: The A-Team.

Not really, we usually finish the fall sports strong, drop a little with winter sports and fall once the spring sports are done. If we can manage to win a National title in Wrestling that will help dramatically. Also it would be good to win a game or two in the NCAA tourney for both men and women.

edit, last year we were at 43 at this point and finished at 58, our highest finish was 40.

Re: Big Ten expansion and Director's Cup

Ya you are right. I would have hoped that football would be higher than 70th or so right now. women's basketball should help. women's track will help. men's track will hurt. wrestling will help out a TON! softball probably won't help but who knows, they are an improving team. gymnastics should help out some. I would think we'd stay about where we were if it were just those sports added in. However, we don't have many teams and that will always hurt us in the standings.

Re: Big Ten expansion and Director's Cup

The bad thing about ISU is that we have to do twice as good in the sports we have to keep up with the big school because they have so many more sports.
