I'm thinking FAIL. Tough to follow in the Footsteps of Manginio.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

Can Turner actually stuff down five pizza pies in one sitting. Thought so.

Can he dust it off with an 18 pack for breakfast? Thought so.

Can he haul 480 pounds around all day? Thought so?

Can he fill a camera when interviewed? Thought so.

    Fail.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

Melvin you have a point....Actually 2 of them...I think its gonna be extremely hard for Turner Gill to replicate big-boys 11 win season plus a win in the Orange Bowl.

Hasnt ever been done in Lawrence KS before bigboy and here's betting it will NEVER BE DONE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its really tough boys...to elevate past basketball school status in a football league!!!!

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

I'm really counting on "KU" to be a WIN for 8 of the next 10 years. They have been a thorn in our side since 2005 when we lost the North in Lawerence (OT).

I believe this will be tougher job for Gill than what everyone thinks. He did a nice job at Buffalo, but everything fell into place for him.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

The most amazing thing about Gill to KU is that KU agreed to pay him $2.0 million a year. Even if you can afford it, no reason that Gill probably would not have taken the job at $1.25-$1.50 million. CPR only makes $1.15 MM.

Perkins has his man now. Better hope it works out.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

The article claims Gill "knows how to recruit the Big 12" I'm curious what the author is basing that on? His coaching experience at Nebraska? How much recruiting does a position coach do?

I think Gill is in for a long, painful first few seasons... hopefully longer.

What fell in place for him at Buffalo? How does anything fall into place for a coach at Buffalo Univ?

It's been pretty well established that position coaches by far do the majority of the recruiting (Ash has been the man for us).

How that translates to him knowing how to recruit the Big 12 remains to be seen. But anyone that expects instant succees for Gill at KU will be sorely disappointed. The strength of that team over the last several years has been offense, and isn't that getting blown up with graduation? This could be a long road to recovery.

Fat Boy was never going to win 11 again anyway. The momentum of hiring an OU guy had long passed.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

As a Jayhawk I have liked the hire from day one. I was worried he would take his staff with him and he's done the opposite. Only taking one guy with him and seems to have a good idea of what kind of staff he wants. It will be almost impossible to go 12-1 and be Orange Bowl Champions again. But even with that year Mangino was 23-41 in the conference and in 8 years he never won the North. It will be interesting to see what Gill can do but it's not like he's replacing somebody that won multiple conference titles. Plus word has leaked out that a lot of players were planning on leaving because of Mangino. The more you hear, the more it seems like the AD had to do something.

Re: KU GILL - Interesting Read

Turner Gill is a great guy (and coach) but I think this is a no win situation for him. KU is in a major rebuilding situation but it seems like the adminstration doesn't know about it yet. I say in less that 5 years Gill is back coaching as an assistant in Lincoln.

I don't buy it. 8 years and nothing, then all of a sudden it was a bad situation when they were on a losing streak after tasting some success.

Read the Article!!!!! Please Read the Article before posting.

The year he won the MAC, he played in the weakest Division. Won a TON of close games and had a CRAZY + TO ratio. I agree, good job taking Buffalo from nothing to nothing +, but this is HUGE jump to KU.
