    Texas Bowl

St Louis Post Dispatch quotes a bowl official as saying the game is nearly sold out (70,000 capacity) -- but MU has only sold 6000 tix --- whoever got Navy to sign with that bowl is a genius.

    PACKED HOUSE

With ticket sales already around the mid-60,000s, Texas Bowl general manager Chris Keeney said he expects a sellout of just over 70,000 at Reliant Stadium.

MU's alumni base in Texas, Navy's broad following and the fact the teams combine to feature about 60 players from the state, Keeney said, make for an "amazingly wonderful storm."

If the sales continue as he hopes, the game descended from the old Bluebonnet Bowl will surpass the city's bowl record attendance of just under 69,000 that was lured to the Texas-Alabama matchup in the 1960 Bluebonnet.

But the sales figure also is slightly misleading. Navy expects to sell its entire allotment of 18,000 tickets. Missouri's allotment is 11,000 and Mizzou athletics spokesperson Chad Moller said MU still has about 6,500 seats available in the $25-$75 range

    Re: Texas Bowl

Was at the Texans-Seahawks game last week, they're selling tickets for $10. Probably has a lot to do with it, especially with A&M playing 3 days earlier and Texas playing in January. Most of the college FB fans are still in town.

I think this should be a pretty entertaining bowl game, a good match up of contrasting styles. I'd probably hit up this game if I was in the area.

They must be doing a better job of marketing the game locally. When we were there nobody even knew there was a game.

Wow, so based on that they haven't sold 6,500 seats, they have 6,500 left from their allotment. That means they have sold 4,500! No wonder you got dumped by the Insight. Houston is a much easier trip to make than Tempe, and you would think a school with a much larger fanbase than ours coming off an 8-4 season would sell better than that. They deserve their reputation for poor travel.

    Re: Texas Bowl

If it really does sell-out, I almost wish that ISU was playing in it. That would have been pretty cool to have a 70,000 seat stadium sold out for an Iowa State game...as it is, we'll be playing in front of about 30,000 in a half-empty stadium...on the bright side, 20,000-25,000 of them will be Cyclone fans.

    Indeed.

On a side note, a lot of Missouri fans have learned to buy through the bowl game directly. Bowl committees love to stiff athletic departments with the crappiest seats in the joint while corporate sponsors and the locals get the better views.

and then cry to big 12 officials when passed over for better fan bases... perception or not.

How many tickets has the ISU Athletic Department sold to the Insight Bowl? If it's the 7,000 figure reported, I would probably keep the smarky comments to a minimum.
