Sounds awful familar to ISU about 4 years ago...

this isnt the whole article, but is from the rutgers bowl game preview.

The raised expectations stem from coach Greg Schiano's success in turning around a program that failed to reach a bowl game from 1979-2004.

"I think people need to take a deep breath and realize that," Schiano said. "There's a lot of football teams in this country that would like to go to five straight bowl games.

"Some would call it not at the level they expect and I apologize for that, but the reality is five straight bowls is five straight bowls. We're going to get to the top, but this is part of the process. I remember going to our first bowl game and everybody was giddy. Don't take things for granted. I know I don't. I know our players don't."

I like Schiano. He's committed to building long term success at a place that was the textbook definition of "sleeping giant". It was definitely a rebuilding year for them, which was obvious, yet their fans let things like Phil Steele calling them a national title dark horse get to their heads.

Yeah, it sounds somewhat familiar to the ISU situation, except that Rutgers had and still has a lot more potential to succeed than ISU.

Rutgers is the only relevant college football team in their state. A state which has a lot of D1 talent. I also believe the Rutgers has more funds going towards their athletic budget than ISU. On top of that, Schiano is more highly regarded as an up and coming coaching candidate than DMac was a few years ago. Rutgers would be stupid to fire him.

Re: Sounds awful familar to ISU about 4 years ago...

nothing really at all... i just thought the qoute is pretty much what Dan Mac said years ago... we went to five bowls in 6 years, but everyone was mad, including myself that we didnt win the north or go to better bowl... just thought Schiano pretty much said what mac said... we want to win more, but there are plenty of teams out there that would love to still be playing in december...

Rutgers wasn't as painfully close to winning the Big East this year as we were to winning the North in 2005.

They won't fire him. I think he's the next Penn State coach.

I would guess Rutgers has a great TV market for the big ten.

Colin Cowherd was going on and on about this this morning. And also talking about the benefits of having the school as a whole as a part of the conference. Rutgers is really a pretty solid academic institution.

Winning the North= winning a division championship
Winning the Big East = winning a Conference Championship

Big difference. Schiano has been as close to winning a Conference Championship as we were a Division championship.

Don't you mean two years in a row -- a loss to Missouri at home and a loss to Kansas the next year?

I have ZERO regrets about moving on from Danny Mac. If the situation was presented again, would want to do it again...no question about it.

Don't you mean "no doubt about it"?
