MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The large number of Cyclone fans who made the trip to Williams Arena were rewarded with a 77-60 Iowa State women’s basketball win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers Sunday afternoon.

The Cyclones improved to 7-1 with the win, while Minnesota dropped to 7-4. It was just Iowa State’s second win over the Gophers in Williams Arena.

Alison Lacey and Whitney Williams led the Cyclones offensively, but the win was a total team effort on both ends of the court. Seven players scored five points or more, while the defense held Minnesota to 33.3 percent shooting for the contest.

Lacey led ISU in scoring with 23 points, and added three rebounds and three assists. She was 6-of-10 from the field and 9-of-9 from the charity stripe. Williams scored a career-high 17 points and also turned in three assists. Chelsea Poppens was the only other Cyclone in double figures with 12 points. Iowa State shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the second half and 48.9 percent for the contest. Minnesota held ISU to just five three-pointers. The Cyclones went 26-for-32 from the free throw line for the game. ISU outrebounded Minnesota, 37-28.
