Cyclones’ Season Ends With 3-0 Loss To Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. – No. 5 Iowa State met its match in the Omaha Regional, falling to No. 7 Nebraska, 3-0 (11-25, 19-25, 22-25), Friday night at the Qwest Center in front of 8,935 spectators to end its season.

The Cyclones (27-5), who hit a season-low .096, got 13 kills from Victoria Henson. Henson hit .321 for ISU, but the Huskers were able to keep all other regular attackers below a .100 hitting percentage.

Kaylee Manns closed out her stellar career at Iowa State by posting her 68th career double-double with 23 assists and 13 digs. Manns finishes her career as Iowa State’s all-time leader with 5,625 assists, while also ranking sixth with 1,379 digs.

Great season volleyball! Nothing to be ashamed about bowing out at the sweet sixteen. This is the beginning of Iowa State becoming a volleyball powerhouse and I really look forward to it! GO CYCLONES!

Just got back from the Omaha. We were never in it tonight. They had the look of deer in the headlights. The ladies had a great season and should have an even better season next year.

Horrible volleyball tournament set up. This should have been at least an Elite 8/Final Four type of match-up.

Re: Cyclones’ Season Ends With 3-0 Loss To Nebraska

A momentous season. Congrats to the team and the staff.

Thank you Kaylee and Diane. Forever grateful to your contributions to the program.

ISU is no longer an up and comer. How they follow up next season is huge for the future of the program. Probably comes down to Landwehr replacing Manns. Very bright next year if Hoackaday, Stadick, and Straube can continue to improve their game.

This program needs a dominating offensive weapon. Whether that is developed organically or it is recruited I think that is the missing piece for the next step.

Nebraska fans thought so too; they still have to play Texas to make the final four...

I don't know who posted the video, but some Nebraska sportswriter explained the bracketing and opined that the committee errored in allowing four Big XII teams to the same regional...

If we were to keep picking up the attendance, is it possible to see volleyball regionals at Wells Fargo? Or even Hilton, but really, probably, Wells Fargo?

No, I'm sure ISU would always host regionals at Hilton - I know they hope to next year. Volleyball regionals are almost always hosted at campus sites. The other three regionals this year are on campus at Stanford, Florida, and Minnesota. There just isn't the attendance for large arenas to jusitfy hosting volleyball and pay the big $$ guarantee to the NCAA.
The Qwest Center is different, because only at Nebraska (and maybe Hawaii) fans would fill the place. I'm sure it's an absolute zoo tonight. Not fair to Texas.

OK. I made the wrong assumption there. I sure wouldn't mind hosting the regionals at Hilton.
