I would, Z has proven he is not a true Ace and Lilly has been WAAAAYYYY more consistent from start to start than Z the past couple seasons.

Yeah... Or Dempster for that matter... Lily and him are becoming WAY more consistent than Big Z. He needs to get it together this year.

The cubs would be better off unloading Zambrano

MLB.com's Carrie Muskat says the Cubs acquired righty Arismendy Mota from the Nationals for cash considerations. Mota was taken by the Nats from the White Sox with the first pick of the Triple A phase of the Rule 5 draft yesterday.

Mota is someone I'd never heard of before yesterday.

Been sayin' this for the past couple years. Get rid of him while everyone still claims he's a top-level pitcher.

i'm content with giving the guy another year for several reasons. i heard from the trainers that big z has lost about 20 pounds so far this offseason (another 10 and he should be in peak shape). also, he said he wants to be a lifelong cubbie, so i would hate to trade a guy that loves the cubs enough to say he'll retire when his contract with them is up. maybe, just maybe, this is the year he wins 20. but probably not...

i'm not sold on any of the fill-ins. first of all, one of them will be the number 5 starter (marshall would probably fit that best), but 2nd, lilly will likely not pitch until may 1, and who's to say how effective he will be when he does come back? they will need to fill that spot for a month anyway, so we will have 2 number 5 quality starters on the rotation for the first month. not looking good for april.

The Cubs still could make a splash this winter. They are in a big group of teams that is exploring a deal with Cuban left-hander Aroldis Chapman , who had a tryout last weekend in Houston. He's a potential front-of-the-rotation starter and could get to the big leagues in a hurry

No one really knows how ready Chapman is.
