It's just like raising taxes...always need more money from the people because they can't budget money.

Yea, it can't possibly be because of the 10% cuts or anything.

It's not an issue of Iowa State being unable to budget their money correctly. The issue is that the state legislature has chosen to reduce every year the amount of state appropriations that go to Iowa State. It's to the point where Iowa State receives less than half of his budget from state appropriations (they received almost 75% of their budget from state appropriations several years ago). This year, the state chose to reduce their appropriation in the MIDDLE of the year (i.e., the state had already given the money to Iowa State and is now requiring that 10% be given back).

So if you're frustrated about this, you should contact your legislator.

Correct - we are becoming more and more like a Private Institution; pretty soon we will not be Iowa STATEUniversity.

It starts at the govt. level and works its way down. Why does govt. and govt. run organizations keep asking the people of the United States to fork over more money to pay for things? When I do my taxes every year it makes me sick what goes to the govt. I'm working to keep the govt. running.

Now the govt. wants to go after college kids to help make up for their lack of budgeting.

Just wondering, but do you spend more in one year than you do in another?

    I live within my means...Govt doesn't.

This article is a perfect example that they had so much backlash from taxing the people of Iowa that they started now going after the kids that go to school to get money.

If someone took away 10% of your salary, would you have to work OT or do something differently to get through the year?

Yes. I did that when revkah had a pay cut, and we still had two house payments. So yeah, we would have to do something in our house.

So you would raise taxes on the Iowa taxpayer to avoid a tuition increase?
