    Unique Iowa weather

On occasion I see that "ice pellets" are forecast for various locales in Iowa. I rarely see ice pellets forecast for other areas of the country. Presumably, Iowa is fortunate to be the recipient of so many differing weather types that others never get to experience?

We see it all here. That's for sure.

I remember how much milder Germany was when I lived there. The ocean moderated the climate a lot despite the fact it's on the same latitude as much of Canada.

Don't know if it's the same thing but we get little pellets of snow/ice out in Washington/Idaho area. I can't remember what they call them but it isn't ice pellets.

Not to mention imploding ice crystals or discharge fog.

    Re: Unique Iowa weather

we had Ice Pellets forecasted for my area here on the east coast, but all we got was more rain. The Bay kept the snow and ice just a bit north/west of me this weekend

Ice pellets are typically used interchangeably with sleet in forecasts as pieces of sleet are just ice cubes basically. Frozen raindrops.

Sleet is mostly likely what is being referred to as "ice pellets" in forecasts. Could be graupel as mentioned above, but I don't know that graupel is particularly forecasted often, especially since its usually mixing with sleet/rain/other stuff.
