This has been like this in college football for YEARS. People voted on the national title winner at the end of the season. Who would vote Boise over Bama? I bet they wouldn't get one vote
wow! I'm done arguing with you sir. You are obviously set in your ways.

I don't see how round-robbin scheduling makes anything more exciting than competing for a north division title. With 8 games, pretty much all of them count just the same.

The AP would be a unanimous selection in favor of Alabama

Because if you go to a conference champs playoff there would no longer be any reason to schedule intriguing non-conference match-ups. Why beat yourself up if you just need to win out your conference schedule? In a playoff system like you propose the rankings become meaningless debate fodder.

Because if you don't win your division, you can't win your conference. And if you can't win your own conference, you have no business winning the national title. Also, some teams don't have divisions, like the Big 10.5 and Pac 10.

So what? The AP is a highly biased conglomerate of media, many of which don't know squat about football outside of whatever ESPN feeds them.

The only reason you would choose Alabama is because they are an SEC team. But what if BSU is actually a better team? Why not let them settle it on the field in a playoff?

    Exactly like they should be.

For the good teams, ones with a legitimate title shot, the matchups that people want to see, scheduling a tough non-conf game prepares you for the conference season (the games that matter) better than a creampuff would. A loss in one of these games would no longer hurt national title hopes, which is one of the reason why they're avoided now.

For those that want to go in the other direction and schedule a few creampuffs, get a nice gate for a few home games, and building some confidence, you still have that option.

Most of those guys watch 10X more football then the rest of the average fan

Also I would chose Alabama because their SOS is 4th in the country. Boise's is 92nd!

But there is zero objective basis for this. That's the problem with the polls (and the computer rankings too). Why not let them play it out in a playoff?

Re: Why I am AGAINST a playoff system

If every team had an equal shot, dont you think that competition would be elevated in every conference? not just the haves?? We keep talking about how easy it would be to get in the bcs if the sun belt had an automatic bid, but if it was that every conference had an auto bid, then texas wouldnt be so powerful. recruiting would even out, and coaching would draw more than elitism.

It will definitely bring more parity for sure, but it wouldn't even everything up. Texas is still a dominant school in a very large state with a ton of talent where football is king and they generate 25% more revenue than the next highest team in the country.

Maybe eventually, but you would still have years of inertia left to overcome. No kids grow up dreaming about playing at Florida International.

And head-to-head, they might beat Alabama. Just like Utah did last year.

Re: Why I am AGAINST a playoff system

I'm with Clones85 entirely on this argument. The current way ain't perfect but it's better than any of the proposed "playoff" arguments I've read so far.

And the people the keep asking for someone to verify how basketball and football are different!?? lol are you serious???

My apologies to Clones85 however, I just can't get myself into an argument like this...but I truly do agree with you.
