Re: What are the chances Danny Mac is promoted to D Cord.?

He might get the job in the interim if Strong is hired away before the bowl game. However, I am not sure if he gets the full time DC job.
Especiallyat a school like Florida, you either need to be the best available candidate or an up and coming young guy to get a coordinator job. Mac might be very deserving, but I am not sure how well he would be received by Florida boosters and fans if given the DC job full time.
I have a feeling Florida either promote a younger assistant with more upward mobility, or go after a bigger name candidate from outside the school.
DMac just isn't a "sexy" hire for them.
They have gotten a lot of credit for having one of the best DCs in the biz lately. Most Florida fans would probably consider Mac a step in the wrong direction.

Note, I am not saying he doesn't deserve it, or that he would do a bad job. I am just making a guess as to how the move would be percieved by the general public, which makes me think it is unlikely to happen.

Not that this is surprising, but I know someone who still talks to Mac fairly often and he does want that DC job. He thinks he has a good shot of getting it, but we will see.

Cue the Dumb and Dumber clip.

I also heard last week that Mac was on KU's short list.

Again, cue the Dumb and Dumber clip.

I loved Mac as much as anyone did, but honestly folks, I think his ship has sailed. He's a great DLine coach at Florida and has a ring to show for it. But I don't see him being the coordinator at that level

Re: What are the chances Danny Mac is promoted to D Cord.?

I would not have an intelligent comment on McCarney's promotional opportunities one way or the other. I would suggest that Wally Burnham is one of the best DC's we have ever had at ISU. Would I consider him a young up and comer with name recognition? Obviously not. DC's need to be able to make instant gametime adjustments and a good game plan prior to the game dependant upon what that week's opponent does offensively. He also needs to use the defense that fits the type of players he has available, not make his players fit some defense that may not fit his players. Otherwords, If DMac knows what he is doing, experience and ability are way more valuable as a Coordinator than youth, good looks and who your Dad was (ex. the Bobby Bowden clan).

FootballCoachScoop said yesterday that DMac was the likely replacement. I know, internet rumors, but it seems like they've been spot on lately.

Re: What are the chances Danny Mac is promoted to D Cord.?

Mac was the coordinator for some pretty good defenses under Alvarez at Wisky, IIRC. He's already on the staff, knows the players, coaches, recruits, etc., so it would be a pretty seamless transition for everyone. Plus, he's been coaching with Burnham and Strong at his last 2 stops, a couple of the best DC's in the business. Makes a lot of sense, just depends on what Meyer thinks of his ability to lead a defense at this point.

Footballcoachscoop.com is usually correct on a lot of these things and they say he is the leading candidate.

For you that like the coaching rumor mill, it's a must read each day.

Excuse me but why would he not get it???!?!?!?! Tell me a more qualified person for the job. The guy was a D1 head coach for how many years? Best football coach in Iowa State history (not saying a lot). Took us from horrible to average.

    No brain hire for Florida

Re: What are the chances Danny Mac is promoted to D Cord.?

up and comer? Why not hire mccarney? just saying, he has experience, knows what UM wants to accomplish and is comfortable in the system. DMac would be a good hire. Tennessee has a 70 year old man running the best defense in the nation, so dont say Mac is past his prime

Gene Smith, 1993-2000. 7 years, 6 NCAA's, 1 bowl game. Revenue sports postseason participation 50%. Good.
    Bruce Vandevelde, 2000-20005. 5 years, 4 bowl games, 2 NCAA's, 2 NIT's. Postseason participation 80%. Better.
    Jamie Pollard, 2005-. 4 years. 1 bowl game, 0 NCAA's, 0 NIT's. Postseason participation: 13%. The next big step.
