    Bowl rankings by payout.

2009-10 College Football Bowl Games & Payouts | MoonDog Sports

If you rank the bowls by how much they payout
    Texas Bowl $1.25 Million
    Insight Bowl $1.2 Million
    Independence Bowl $1.1 Million

I am not sure what Mizzou and others have to complain about.

Interesting. I have seen other sources that indicated Texas Bowl only pays $750,000.

Not picking on the OP, but it has been explained about 100 times that the bowl payouts mean very little. ISU (or MU) does not get this money. The conference does and splits the net bowl proceeds evenly among all 12 schools. Even when ISU does not go bowling, we get bowl money. The only difference is that the conference allows higher travel budgets for the bigger bowls, so more "people" get to attend, nicer place, longer stay, etc. For these three bowls, the travel budget is probably the same.

Did Iowa State ever get their full payment from Houston Bowl last time they were there?

    Agreed. See:

    $17M BCS payouts sound great, but ... - USATODAY.com

I think he added the 2 schools together.

I don't know how accurate moondog sports are or if it is a credible site I just googled "bowl payouts" to see what the difference was. I understand how it works I was just interested in the different payouts.

    Re: Bowl rankings by payout.

In the big 12 it doesn't matter...if you make it to a bowl, they take all of the money in and split it out. Everyone gets the same amount of "bowl" money if they make it to a bowl game iirc.

I always thought they divided it between all 12 teams, but you say it is only to those going to a bowl. That is very interesting.

I am not sure...it wouldn't make sense in my mind for teams who didn't go to a bowl game to get rewarded. You would have to ask someone who knows more than me.

It goes to all twelve teams... that's why it is to our benefit for the Big 12 to do VERY well every year...

    Re: Bowl rankings by payout.

My understanding is that bowl money is NOT divided equally among the schools. I think in the Big X, it's equal share. It's not in the Big XII.

I think they divide it equally...between Texas and Oklahoma.

Unless the policy has changed in the last 5 years (possible), the bowl money is divided only among bowl eligible teams.

This is exactly why socialism doesn't work.

    Re: Bowl rankings by payout.

Does both teams playing in the bowl receive the same amount or is the winning team the only to get money?
