    How early is too early?

To start your snowblower in the morning? My neighbor decided to fire his up at 4:50am this morning and it kept me up for almost 30 minutes. Not a great way to start the week.

Re: How early is too early?

I didnt hear any today. Most everyone was just using the shovel. I wondered that same thing though as I shoveled - not because of my neighbors but wondered if I'd wake all my kids up. Guess I'll keep on using my back instead!

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

Re: How early is too early?

    Ill trade you neighbors.

Mine cant snowblow in a straight line while drinking (or hungover) and ends up taking a nice chunk of my yard out while trying to clear off the sidewalk... Did I add that I usually have already done the sidewalk with my much better snowblower ?

On to your original question, If I leave for work at 5:30 am ...When am I supposed to do it ? If you snowblow my driveway for me (and do just paved surfaces), I'll gladly stop.

Re: How early is too early?

I left my house at 5:30 and didn't snowblow but nearly every neighbor was outside by that time doing it. I would say that 5am is the absolute earliest but in reality the city of Johnston snow trucks usually wake me up every time they go by anyway.

Re: How early is too early?

I wondered this as well this morning. I started mine up at 5:45am and it took me about 20 minutes. I have to be on the road by 6:45am to work so I don't really have much choice. I don't think this is as offensive as mowing your lawn in the early/late hours during the summer because windows are shut...or maybe I am just trying to justify firing up my snowblower at 5:45am this morning?

Some people have to work very early (fortunately we don't)...when else are they supposed to do it?

I don't think there is a too early. If someone has to leave for work earlier than others, well, they still need to get the drive/sidewalks cleared.

Re: How early is too early?

I leave for work before 5:00 every morning and that is the reason I don't own a snowblower. My neighbors all seem to like me and I want to keep it that way!!

Re: How early is too early?

During the week I don't think it as big of a deal since you have to go to work anyway, 4:30 is a bit extreme, but if you are the only one going to do it I can understand it. My neighbor in Ankeny would be out there by 5:30 everyday, including the weekends! He was retired, I never figured out why he had to be the first to get it done, and his driveway was right next to our bedroom, man I hated that. After snowblowing the driveway, he would make sure to take a metal scoop and get it perfectly clean. I will not miss that this winter!

How much snow did you guys get down there?

    Barely a dusting up here.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

I live in on the west side of Ames and I'd say there was two inches. It was really dry and light too so was easy to shovel.
