Official Weather Thread for Tues & Wed 12/8 & 9

Looking at possibly 10-12 inches in Central Iowa at this point, certainly to change up and/or down between now and Tuesday. Strong winds should create blizzard conditions on Wednesday.

I will believe it when I see it.

Weathermen in Central Iowa don't have the best records in the last few years.

I've been watching this storm for a few days now. Looks like you guys will be in for a doozy. There is talk that this will be a historic storm in eastern iowa with 6 foot drifts common.

If by "last few years," you mean "ever," then I'm right there with you.

Still looking like 8-12 inches here in DSM. Worst part will probably be the winds on Wed though if the snow is fluffy.

Is this really shaping up to be a big storm? I know all the local news stations like to try to hype up the first snow of the season so that they can be the "first" to report on it, but really? Six foot snow drifts?

From everything I've read it is looking really bad. 8-12" of snow plus 40-50 mph sustained winds. That'll cause some big drifts.

Blizzard watch posted for southern Minnesota by Twin Cities weather office.

Winter storm watch for northern Iowa.

    Snow + wind = ugly

All the models point to a big storm as far as certainty goes, this storm has been remarkably consistent on the models and they have a good degree of agreement with each other. Could something happen and we barely end up with a small amount of snow, sure, but thats merely because the weather is difficult to predict.

Lately, anytime the local weather people say 10-12 inches, I prepare for a trace to 4 inches.
