I'm not jumping ship on McD yet

I know all of us, including myself, are extremely frustrated with the team these past couple of games, but I'm not giving up on Mac yet. We all know that the talent is here this year to do good things. Mac knows it too; he's not an idiot. The past two games we were lacking the killer instinct to put these away, otherwise we would've been looking at sizeable wins. IMO the St. Louis game was well coached down the stretch(on the radio it sounded like we were taking smart shots)

I like to keep bringing up the '99-'00 season just because we stumbled out of the blocks at first (remember that Drake loss?) before having our best season

Again, I know we're frustrated, but IMO the best thing for us to do is get behind this team and support them. Tonight will be tough but let's get our butts out to Hilton next Friday to cheer them on as they whoop Iowa

If the season goes south, I will vent my frustration come March. Until then LET'S GO STATE!!

I always think it is a good idea to reserve judgment till after a season. You never know what happens, and I don't want to put into print something I might regret later.

Re: I'm not jumping ship on McD yet

I'm a big Mac fan, but he better wake up. We have something called depth on this years team therefore we need to be running these teams out of the gym. I'd press nearly every possession and use mass substitutions when we get winded. No reason to keep these games in the 60s. Also, we're not drawing enough fouls because our players don't get contact on their shots. Time to get the football pads out for a couple practices. Again, I like Mac and he's a great rep for our university, but wins are the reason he's here and he'd better start getting some. If not I'd go after Rick Majerus next season. Can't believe he'd stay in St Louis if the Iowa State job opened up.

Re: I'm not jumping ship on McD yet

Not sure if I have jumped ship per se, but I didn't renew my season tickets for bball, and I won't skip out on many things to bother watching a game.

Maybe if they show some spirit, and actually win an upset under McD, I might get interested again.

    Until then, whatever.

Have you seen our post defense? We press every play, we will get TORN UP on easy buckets. Think Northwestern game bad.

Additionally, if you can't rebound, you can't run. Right now we're releasing 2 guards down the floor, flaring out the point guard, and hoping the other two players can rebound. It isn't working and we're getting beat on the boards. Running should be scrapped until we can secure boards.

I jumped after UNI. If McD and his team throw me a life vest, great. If not, better to drown quickly now than slowly over the course of a miserable and disappointing season.

Re: I'm not jumping ship on McD yet

I'm giving him the rest of the year before I jump ship. This is our best chance to do some serious damage in the NCAA tournament and could be Mac's only if both Brackins and Gilstrap aren't here next year.

He's getting very close to losing me, fwiw. You can't say we're out of the NCAA's yet, but we have a pretty slim margin for error from here on out.

My opinion at this point, is that McD isn't capable of getting ISU to where we all want our BBall program to be. But I hope I'm wrong.

He's got this season, then I'm off the ship if we don't show something.

I was never on the ship, so I don't have to jump. His style of coaching, IMO, doesn't work at this level. We're going to have to fire a native son. I hope I can eat my words for the last four years - but this is not the guy to get the job done at ISU. We'll see what the Cal and Duke games bring. As always, I'll still be cheering, but unusually, I'm not optimistic.

I'm not jumping just yet. But I am not waiting the entire season either. A few games into conference play, it should be very clear whether McD is capable of continuing or not.

Re: I'm not jumping ship on McD yet

We all want to see him succeed and nobody wants to go through another coaching change, but there's got to be some improvement. I'm more concerned about the passion and effort that I'm seeing from the team.

Like I've been saying, we are continually out-hustled and out-worked on both ends of the floor and our guys mope around when things don't go their way. Now, some of that is on the players, but the coach has to set the tone.

This is a sign of very serious issues, much bigger than the schemes or strategy that are discussed so much on this board.
Instead of "can't rebound" or "can't get shots to go down," it's more like "won't rebound" and "won't work for better shots."
