    Thoughts for Next Years Team

With kickoff for next year's season opener only 9 months away, I figured its time to discuss the things that must happen for this team to be successful

    1) DL play---Not a whole lot of depth for a group that doesn't have a whole lot of talent. If I'm an unsigned DT, I'd probably give ISU a looksy...

    2) LB play---See above. However, we have landed some stud LB's that should figure to play immediately.

    3) WR's---Based on recruiting rankings, this is the best unit ISU has. Based on performance, it is probably the weakest (had a few injuries tho)

    4) Momentum---6 wins this year exceeded alot of expectations, however, 6 wins next year may be impossible given the schedule. The records of our opponents next year went 93-52 during the regular season this year. All reached postseason play except for UNI (missed playoffs by one game), Kansas (missed bowl by one game), and Colorado (who sucks at football and has a coach that looks like the older brother from the Goonies)

    5) Pre-Game Cheers---Just show the Rhoads speech after the Nebraska game each week. I'll never get sick of it and it gets me jacked up everytime I see it...The guy that does the cheers now makes me want to stab people...

    You don't see 6 wins???

    Northern Illinois
    UNI
    Kansas
    Colorado
    Kansas State
Mild Upset (Nebraska, Missouri, Utah, or Iowa)

And...we get Nebraska, Missouri, and Utah at home. I think there are definitely 6 wins on this schedule.

    New Year, New Team.

I think that if ISU really improves on Offense, we have a shot at a 6-7 win Season. That would be a great year.

That Schedule is Tough, but we need to start 3-1.

i think coach cpr will pick up a couple of juco defensive ends, one freshman defensive end possibly dartwan bush and a qb.i think they have some pretty good dbs and speedy linebackers coming in.we need help at defensive end and i would like to see them land the juco tonga for a nose guard or nose tackle slot. i still think they will also bring a first rate qb now that jordan rogers cancelled his visit at ku.i see rhoads and herman going after him
or one of the qb candidates in florida

Re: Thoughts for Next Years Team

After watching Oregon the other night, I was very excited to see some zone read where the receivers actually get open. I'm hoping that having guys like Reynolds and Darks 100% healthy makes a big difference, and some of the guys who redshirted this year are able to make an impact.

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection.

Re: Thoughts for Next Years Team

How 'bout this in regards to the 'pre-game cheer'...Let them play the video of the locker room celebration after the NU game and get somebody with a lot of jacked up energy and a mic to say "I-WHAT?" and the crowd WILL respond... "I-STATE"!!!

That would get me jacked up for everything! And yes, I still don't get tired of seeing that celebration!

    What do you all think?

Add to the list of next year's opponents that didn't make post-season: K-State.

I don't know if they need to show the video every week, but the cheer could be a whole lot of fun.

Even without the video, we'll all know where that's from for years.

Since we are an elite team now, let's go get that One Cyclone Moment.
Make this one for the ages!

    This^^

Yes, our South rotation is a monster, but we went 1-2 vs the South this year.

I would add Tech to your list as well for Mild Upset, particularly if Leach moves on this year.

So, we have five games we could be favored to win or probably within 3 points:

    NIU
    UNI
    KU
    @CU
    KSU at Arrowhead

We have four other home games that we will likely be underdogs, but we should be competitive.

    Utah
    Tech
    NU
    MU

That is nine games that we will be battling in. I am not writing off 6 wins as unachievable, even with our losses on D. I am in the camp that our D might actually show some more improvement next year after another year with Rhoads and Burnham.

Nebraska will actually be awake for the game next year, and they have WAY more talent than ISU.
